About this item

Highlights

  • In the Valley of the Vikings, the annual barrel bowling contest is taking place. Use the ball to knock down the right barrels and smart tactics to line up the Vikings on the dock.
  • Courage, skill and willingness to take risks are needed because players who overextend themselves on the dock and fall in the water go away empty-handed.
  • Players take turns positioning and trying to knock down the colored barrels in the middle of the board. Depending on which colors are knocked down, they are advanced along the dock accordingly (leapfrog style).
  • Each spot on the dock represents a different action, such as collecting coins or stealing coins from other players. When all the coins are gone, the player with the most gold wins! This game ALWAYS plays with 4 players, so if playing with only 2, you could lose to a ghost!
  • 2-4 players ages 6 and up. Plays in about 15 minutes. Contents include: 1 large Viking Valley game board (to be pieced together from 7 parts), 8 Viking flags, 4 Viking tokens, 1 cardboard bat, 4 ships (each to be assembled from 4 cardboard sections), 1 bowling ball, 24 gold coins, 4 wooden barrels, 1 rulebook. Made in Germany

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hana valley of the Viking seemed difficult at first but it was very fun. It a puzzle to put together every time to play and they have fun Viking boat pieces as well. It a little time consuming to set up but it’s fun. Another thing thing is that barrels are placed in the center for a bowling ball. I liked it becuase you roll the ball to the barrels. Collecting coins can be a slow process. There are two to Four players and it does require some understanding. The Vikings work to collect coins and each can be pushed off the boat. You start by bowling to hit at least one barrel. This is when you move a Viking token over a spot on the dock for each barrel hit. You move the tokens along the dock but if one is sent in the water then you lose them all. You repeat until the the head is full. It takes some getting used to and instructions to follow. It gets fun but does require some deciphering to f the instructions. Overall this is a fun game for those with patience but also those who love to roll over barrels. Something new for a family to try.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Game is very easy for kids to play. The Viking bat allows for an interactive movement with the balls and gold barrels when the ball rolls on the game board. The game only take about 10-20 minutes depending on the numbers you roll, so it keeps our 5 year olds attention. Pieces are durable and gameboard will not break easily. I recommend for a new style game!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our family had been enjoying playing Vally of Vikings. It’s a fun game that requires some risk taking and I love to see the little ones think out their moves. I think my favorite thing about it is that each round is short, about 15mins. That’s great to keep people engaged.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I played this with my 6 year old, my 3 year old, and my wife. We all enjoyed playing. With the younger kids you'll have to help them with moving the boardwalk pieces, but they'll still have fun bowling the barrels down and getting coins.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has been a fun game to play with the family. Valley of the Vikings Is a simple game to learn how to play. The game itself is made very well and the pieces stay in place as needed. Knocking the barrels over is the funnest part, and allows the players to set up each round differently. All in all a fun game for the family.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This game is perfect for those in 2nd grade or above looking for a little more action than the traditional board games. The game is not one of those that takes hours on end to play and instructions are relatively easy for kids "and" adults to play together.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We played Valley of the Vikings with our five, six and eight year old boys. They love to knock down the barrels with the bat and see what happens on each turn. Building the 3D ships was fun as well. We read the instructions and were setup in no time. The game went pretty quick, so we ended up playing 2 or 3 rounds. This is a really neat concept and lots of fun was had by all in our family, which is great.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our entire family loves the game Valley of the Vikings. The bowling for barrels is by far our favorite part; it's silly and a bit harder than you would think it would be to accomplish. There is also strategy involved to keep your Vikings out of the sea. The main goal is to collect gold coins and each player gets a little Viking ship to hold all their look. This game is definitely staying in our regular family game night rotation.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I played this board game with my 4 and 6 year old. It was very easy to assemble and understand. The details (barrels, boats, and coins) were cute and well thought of. The batting concept added a different element compared to traditional board games. It was fun to watch the kids so eager and engaged.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a fun game for the whole family! You use the viking bat piece to hit the bowling ball down and try to knock over barrels. You get to steal gold from other players. Don’t get knocked off the end of the dock or lose all your gold. We have a great time playing and the kids always want to play again and again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this game to play with my 6 year old and I must say that I think it is well over her head. There is a lot of strategy involved that I do not believe a six-year-old would understand. Additionally, the setup of this game took at least 20 minutes to get going. The game itself is all right. It's not terribly fun but I could see that an older child might like it.

Great family game

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn't know anything about this game before playing it for the first time, but I can definitely see this becoming a family favorite. It's for ages 6+ but I played with my 2 kids, ages 3 & 5 and they both did great. The game is for 2-4 players and you start out by choosing your colored ship & matching viking token (red, blue, green & yellow). The ships must be assembled and are made with a thick cardboard, like a puzzle piece, and are a such a great touch to the theme of the game. They are not hard to put together, although you only need to remove the sail from the ship when putting the game away in order for them to fit into the box and do not need to reassemble them completely each time you play. The ships are used to store coins that you win throughout the game. Once the game board is set up, each player takes a turn using the batter (a cardboard viking) to hit the bowling ball towards 4 colored barrels in the center of the board. Depending on what color barrels are knocked over, the matching viking token is then moved along the dock. A nice aspect of the game, especially for younger players, is that if they do not hit any barrels with the bowling ball on their first try, they can keep trying until they do. The part of the game that was a bit confusing for both me and the kids, is that no coins are awarded to a player until a viking token falls off the dock and into the water. We initially thought that coins were earned with each move, but that is not the case. Another important note about this game, you can play with as little as 2 players, but the 2 tokens/ships not being used are still involved in the game and could ultimately end up winning with the most coins. I personally love this game for young kids. It teaches fine motor skills with batting the bowling bowls and setting up the barrels, and also teaches counting with the coins. Each game we played lasted around 15-20 minutes and kept the attention of the kids the whole time. I also really love a good theme to go along with a board game and I was really impressed with all the small viking details. Great game!

We bought this game to play with our grandkids, and every time we play, we remember what a great game it is for anyone. Some other board games we play with the younger ones get boring for us, and we only play to spend time with them. Valley of the Vikings is one we look forward to and really enjoy playing every time.
