Hudson and Canal 27" Tall Table Lamp with Metal Shade Brass/Matte Black: Mid-Century Modern, UL Listed, E26

I was looking for something midcentury and kind of tall, for a table lamp, and these lights fit the bill. I previously had good luck with a Wayfair lamp (looking at you, Lepower Wood Tripod Floor Lamp), so I went into this purchase with an open mind. Some nice things: The lamps look exactly like the picture and are sturdy as heck; they will probably outlast you and me both. Some not-so-nice things: It seems obvious that the switch for each light should be on the back of the shade; indeed, there is even a knob, of sorts, there — but it is ornamental. To actually turn the light on and off, you have to reach around for the cord, on which the switch is housed. I'm sure this was a cost-saving measure. And this, in the end, is the problem with the lamp. You can just kind of tell when you hold the packaging that it was made with the absolute cheapest cardboard available. On opening the box, you are met with an explosion of dissintegrating styrofoam — and the only way to access lamps proper is to work your way through the bits of foam, which come apart as you touch them. The bits are so small and light that they cling to everything: clothes, the lamps, your pants, etc. I had to vaccuum extensively. Three days later, I'm still finding little globules of styrofoam around the house. It's like Christmas tree needles, only smaller and more hazardous for the environment. The packaging actually felt disrespectful. It's a shame because, as I've said, the lamps are sturdy and look cool. Would I buy these again? Uh, no.
