Q&A(9)

Q: what age do you think it is right for a girls to start to wear a bra

submitted by josie - 4 years ago
  • A: Whenever breast buds start to show through shirts or if she asks at a reasonable age. I only needed one at 13 and I'm 15 still wearing training bras.

submitted byEvelyn - 3 years ago
  • A: When their body shows signs of puberty.

submitted byDog Mom - 10 months ago
  • A: Me and my mom both got training bras when we were nine and she got a real bra when she was 11. Just matters when your hormones kick in.

  • A: i started puberty at 9- im 11 now .-.

  • A: 11 years old is an average age puberty starts

submitted bygirl who needs a bra - 4 years ago
  • A: Some girls will wear them in elementary school because it makes them more comfortable. If it has crossed your mind because she's entering that stage of development, then it's probably the right time to make some bras available to the girl in your life. Many girls are too nervous to ask for one; you may just need to buy a few and have them at home for her to try out when the time feels right. There is no right age -- any age is fine.

  • A: Whenever they ask for sure...even if you think it's too early, if it makes them feel more confident and comfortable, I don't see the harm. Just like preparing them for puberty by introducing them to the parts of the body and the terminology. Good time to bond with them and let them know you are on their side to help them while they grow up. Maybe their friends are developing and talking about it, so they want to wear one too. Who knows, but I like to pursue things while they are interested. I was extremely embarrassed when I was asked at a gymnastics meet once "don't you have a bra" by my coach....apparently, I should have been wearing one under my leotard for the meet suit, which was white and not as tight...it was when I noticed that I had the breast buds but didn't know there was any such thing as a training bra. If your daughter doesn't have anything there, but wants a bra, get a sports bra style without cups. She may just not want her nipples to show through her shirt even if she is not developing yet.

Q: Size chart is confusing. Isn't the band size the same thing as the rib cage? My girl's band size, or ribcage, is 28. Her bust size is barely 30. I think her size is probably 28A. Weighs 100 pounds and is 5' 5 1/2" tall. Is this small or medium?

submitted by EmilyD - 5 years ago
  • A: Bra sizes in general are confusing, but I would go off of her measurements more than the band size.
