Q: How do these lamps affect the eyes long term? Do I need to wear sunglasses?

A: Hi Llamamama, Thank you for your question! It is not necessary to wear sunglasses, as tinted glasses would cause less light to reach your eyes, and the light from the HappyLight Therapy Lamp needs to reach your eyes to work. However, you should not stare at the lamp directly, the same way you should not stare at the sun to protect your eyes. The lamp can be placed between 6 to 24 inches away from you, at a distance you find comfortable. Just note that the closer the light is to you, the shorter the amount of time you will need to use the light to receive its full benefits. Nice light, but the timer is difficult to use. It doesn’t register when you touch it unless you press hard. I also wish you could change the angle by tilting it.

Comprehensive user's manual. Product is as was expected. My favorite features of this model are: It's shape is like having a little Sun on my Michigan winter desk. Adjustibility in light intensity is key to my avoiding headaches. We're batting 90% there. My absolute favorite is the timer feature. I can turn that on and truly make the Happy Light a part of the background. My only "suggestion" is that while reaching to set the timer, it is too easy to bump the light control. The change can be jarring.

I've had the HappyLight Alba for a few years now, and it really helps me feel more alert and have more energy during the dark winter months in the PNW. I set it up when I'm doing my morning yoga and it makes a big difference in how I feel.

I have now broken the USB power adapter twice, once from simply tipping it over on my table and rendering it unusable. The light itself it great and has made a big difference in my morning wakefulness, but the durability of the product is poor. Why they use USB type C for a simple 2 wire connection is beyond me. I have gone to the length of soldering the leads from the power supply to the light, as it should have been done from the factory, because I'm concerned it will break again if it's replaced. Unless you have soldering skills, wait for a revised product before purchasing.

I have purchased 2 models of this lamp, both of which no longer work. The design of the charging cord is flawed. The charging cord and the port will break, making the lamp an expensive paperweight. Verilux knows this is a common issue with this lamp, yet they still continue to sell a defective product. They used to sell a replacement charging cord, but they discontinued it. Guess Verilux could not admit that they are selling a popular defective product. Sales must be more important than service.

We bought this just under a year ago, and it really has made a big difference for us. It has become part of our regular routine, which also means my husband and I have quiet uninterrupted conversation time as we set together with the light. Sadly, the power cord broke (so 4 stars not 5) so we are waiting patiently for the new one and missing our conversations. But it is amazing how they really help ... it was hard to tell just how much until we didn't have it anymore.

We have used Verilux reading lamps for years and have several in our home. We were excited to try the Happy Light during the short days of our New York winter, especially in a home office area that tends to be dark. Unfortunately, no matter which brightness setting, hue or location it was just too bright and "in your face", not therapeutic. We tried to get used to it as recommended but it didn't work for us We are returning it.

I need my Verilux Alba light in the fall, winter, and early spring, as living in the northern part of the country is cold and dark for much of the year. I get sluggish and depressed without enough light. The Alba light helps me to wake up, be happier, and more energetic throughout the dark winter season. I am more productive, too. I have been using these lights for years now, at the suggestion of my physician, and with good effect.
