Q: How does Holly Compacta hold up in a mostly shady area?
A: Hi CJ, thanks for reaching out! Holly Compacta thrives in full sun, but can tolerate some shade. Reduced sunlight will limit the overall growth and health of the plant.

Q: Instead of a shadow box fence, I would like to have privacy trees. How long does it take to reach mature height? How wide? I would like to know this info so I will know how many I need.
A: Hi Kee, thanks for reaching out. Holly Compacta grow approximately 6 inches per year. Most mid size shrubs will reach their mature size around 5-7 years, but that also varies on a lot of things like sunlight exposure, access to water in times of drought, and nutrients available in soil. The mature size of these plants is 4-6 ft tall and wide. You can see this and other helpful info under the details section of the web page.

Q: Is this a female or male plant?
A: Ilex Compacta plants are dioecious meaning there are both male and female plants. it will be too hard to determine if the exact plant we ship is either male or female unless it is in bloom or currently has berries. Is there a particular attribute you for which your are looking?
