Q: If I don't want the top part on the desk, can I take it off and will it still look good?

A: Yes. The top is a totally separate piece. It really adds a lot to the desk and doesn't sit up that high on the desk. Makes the desk look more finished, but it is not required to be put up.

Q: The title of this listing says "Solid Wood" but the description says MDF. Which is true?

A: It's not solid wood - it's pretty sturdy but it's MDF. Also, the white paint scratches very easily.

Q: Does this contain formaldehyde?

A: Hello Anne Nelson, great question! Because this desk is made using MDF board it does contain formaldehyde but does not exceed the standard. The MDF we use is E1 meaning that the formaldehyde does not exceed 9mg/100g. Hope this information helps!

I've had it for a day and it's already got a bunch of scratches on it from my freaking notebook. I'm so mad because it took me a whole day to put it together only to have to return now:(

IF the desk had not arrived improperly put together from the factory, making one drawer totally useless, it would be great. Customer is HORRIBLE! Cannot say enough negative things about my phone call for help!

I am very handy but this desk was a real pain to build. One of the very important pieces was not predrilled as it was supposed to. The "wood" was impossible to drill a hole into after the fact. It is too late to disassemble at this point overwise I would consider returning it

This was one of the best experiences I've had when assembling furniture. The use of cams was well directed, the instructions were easy. The quality of the desk is not the greatest, but then, you get what you pay for. Together, it is a nice looking piece and will work well. Just need to be careful moving it, as the one side of the desk is weakly constructed.

I just got this desk (wait for the sale) for my 11 year old daughter. I think it is pretty nice for the price. I was able to put it together by myself tho there were a lot of pieces. The drawers are great and the hutch is perfect for storage and her little Knick knacks. Make sure not to over turn the B screws or the locking clips don’t grab them. Learned that the hard way!

When you tighten the cams it forces and pops the wooden dowels through in the ther side despite them being pressed and tapped in all the way. Very cheap quality although the design is nice overall. Disappointed.

Very unsatisfied. Every little touch to the white wood pieces left a forever mark while putting the desk together which took a long time. Too expensive for this quality

If I could give it a negative star - I would. First - the desk is very difficult to put together. The directions were vague and there are a ton of parts. It took HOURS. Many of the pieces had scratches or dings or deficiencies in the wood but by the time you figure that out - the desk is half put together and too late to turn back. It looks okay from far away but the flaws are obvious on closer inspection. You get what you pay for with an inexpensive desk but this was not even worth the price we paid by far. I suggest looking elsewhere.

Good quality. Easy assembly if you are adept at putting together furniture. Biggest beef: VERY strong odor. It is dissipating. It's been 5 days, still smells strongly but is diminishing. I'm guessing three weeks it might be ok. Let's hope so.

First beware they are two separate pieces. The top portion just sits on top of the table. For the amount of money it's made of poor quality. I laid a piece of the desk on the main portion, when I went to lift it off I had a hugh scratch on it. I took it back after I assembled it for 3 hours

We orered this desk because it was a better deal oppose to other online stores. It came quickly, but it didn't come with instructions so I had to print them online ....many pages and a lot of ink later, we had intructions. It was time consuming to put together. The instructions could have been better. Also some pieces broke while putting together ...thank goodness for glue. We also had to drill extra holes and move a glider track. We also had to adjust one of the drawers. Overall, after all that it look decent as it's a nice bright white; however, NOT WORTH THE MONEY...it's maybe a $150 desk tops.

Took lots of time to put together and very heavy boxes when delivered. The hanging rack drawer does not equate with my sliding files, but regular folders fit the drawer. Nicely made and high quality. Instructions occasionally fuzzy but figured it out. Just love it!

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality/ sturdiness of this desk. The assembly instructions were well done (only 1 exception was the placement of the desk drawer guides). Looks great. A pure white. Would buy again.
Nice piece of furniture, but horrible chemical smell

This is a nice desk which is perfect for my daughter's room. It's made of decent materials and is fairly easy to assemble. The hinge mechanism on the center drawer is a bit of a problem (the screw holes were offset, so the screws ate through the wood, making the hinge come off...fixed with construction glue). The HUGE negative is the smell. The desk has a horribly toxic chemical smell, presumably from the paint. We constructed the desk on 02/09/14, and my daughter still cannot sleep in her room as of today (02/13/14), because the chemical smell is horrible and I don't want her breathing toxic fumes all night. Don't know what to do to get rid of it, but hoping it fades over time. I plan to contact the manufacturer to find out if there is any way to get rid of the chemicals, but I'm not optimistic.

one word review . . . ugh! 1. not 'solid wood' . . . well over half of it is particle board. can you say, 'false advertising'?! 2. not easy to assemble. not sure what the other positive reviewer is talking about . . . took me over half a day. 3. both missing and damaged parts. cam/lock system is usually good, but only if you use quality parts, not the case here. two cam locks broke, many of the bolts do not align correctly. like other reviewer noted, they poked holes through paper thin veneer 4. drawer glides are horrible. they do not align correctly, do not glide easily, and will surely break after even the lightest use. 5. cubby compartments not attached to top so they will also surely break if you add anything to them that would add pressure e.g. notebooks. looks nice online, but looks can be deceiving. very disappointed . . . will be returning.

I looked all over for an inexpensive desk with lots of storage and saw this one. I was nervous to make the actual purchase from what some of the reviews say, but I've bought furniture from Target before and have loved what I've gotten so I took a chance on this desk - I couldn't get over all the storage - and am very very happy! The assembly was straight forward and the finished product looks awesome!

I ordered this desk for my son. Putting it together was pretty easy and I didn't have any of the quality problems some of the other reviews mentioned. My desk is very sturdy, maybe the issues have been resolved by now? Anyway, I think it's a great desk! Lots of storage.
