Where do you see yourself in five years? Dannie Kohan lives her life by the numbers. She is nothing like her lifelong best friend--the wild, whimsical, believes-in-fate Bella. Her meticulous planning seems to have paid off after she nails the most important job interview of her career and accepts her boyfriend's marriage proposal in one fell swoop, falling asleep completely content. But when she awakens, she's suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. Dannie spends one hour exactly five years in the future before she wakes again in her own home on the brink of midnight--but it is one hour she cannot shake. Praise for In Five Years: "What would you do if you glimpsed your life five years from now--and found that it was different, in every way, from what you hoped for and expected? Rebecca Serle pairs this inspired premise with deft, propulsive prose and characters who feel as real as friends. In Five Years is as clever as it is moving, the rare read-in-one-sitting novel you won't forget." --CHLOE BENJAMIN, New York Times bestselling author of The Immortalists "In Five Years is more than just a love story; it's a half dozen of them, none quite what you expect. Heartwarming, heartbreaking, and hard to put down, it's a novel about romance, friendship, the magic of good bagels, and what happens after you get everything you always wanted." --LAURIE FRANKEL, author of New York Times bestseller and Reese Witherspoon Hello Sunshine pick This Is How It Always Is-- "Good Morning America" "A heartwarming portrait of a broken heart finding a little healing magic." --Kirkus Reviews-- "Good Morning America" "Heartbreaking, redemptive, and authentic in all the ways that make a book impossible to put down, I fell in love with this story. In five years, I will still be thinking about this beautiful novel." --JAMIE FORD, New York Times bestselling author of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet-- "Good Morning America" "I adored In Five Years, it's so poignant and tender. It broke my heart, such an unusual idea executed brilliantly, I didn't see that twist coming! I'm a sucker for great love stories, and this one is just lovely. A keeper on my shelf!" --JOSIE SILVER, author of #1 New York Times bestseller and Reese's Book Club pick One Day in December-- "Good Morning America" "I just finished In Five Years and--my heart--oh! What a clever, beautiful, special book. The writing is stunning, the concept is so original--it just has everything going for it. I loved every page." --BETH O'LEARY, author of The Flatshare-- "Good Morning America" "I read it in one late night. Very, very clever. And lovely. The end is EXACTLY what it should be." --ANSTEY HARRIS, author of Goodbye, Paris-- "Good Morning America" "Serle's whimsical tale is book club catnip." --Publishers Weekly-- "Good Morning America" "The novel is about the real meaning of love and friendship and the bonds that tie us all together."-- "Good Morning America" "When smart, thoughtful writing pairs with a compelling, ingenious plot I am hooked and so very happy. It's been a long time since I read a novel in two sittings, but as soon as I started In Five Years, I was a goner. Loved it! Brava, Rebecca Serle." --ELINOR LIPMAN, author of Good Riddance-- "Good Morning America" "With masterful storytelling and all the ingredients of a romantic comedy, Rebecca Serle weaves a story far deeper than the genre typically dares to go. In Five Years isn't simply a book you will read, it is a book that will change you." --JENNY MOLLEN, New York Times bestselling author of I Like You Just the Way I Am-- "Good Morning America" "Serle takes a fairly generic rom-com setup and turns it into something much deeper in this captivating exploration of friendship, loss, and love." --BooklistDimensions (Overall): 8.2 Inches (H) x 5.8 Inch (W) x 1 Inch (D)

You just had an interview for your dream job and you nailed it. Now you are having dinner with your boyfriend and he propose which of course you accept. Your home and buzzing from all the champagne and wine you had with dinner and you fall asleep. When you wake up you are in a strange apartment. Not with your fiance but with a strange man and it also five years in the future. You spend the day wondering what is going on. You go to sleep that night and when you awake up you are back in your apartment you stayed in the future and you are still engaged because you have not found the time to get married. You are so confused and are wondering was it all just a bad dream. Your BFF invites you to lunch where she tells you that she has meet the one of course you are skeptical because she has meet the one so many times. She wants all of you to go to dinner to meet each other. When you arrive for dinner you are shocked because her boyfriend is the man you were within what you thought was your bad dream. This is a book where I laughed and cried a little and was reminded about the bonds of friendship and love.

Disappointed in the ending. I feel like all the characters needed to be more in depth. Chemistry would start to be building then it just poof fizzled out. Had the potential to be a good book but everything needed to be expanded upon more.

It was a slow read if you like that. I kept waiting for a romantic climax but I felt like I never got one. The ending disappointed me:(

“You mistake love. You think it has to have a future in order to matter, but it doesn’t. It’s the only thing that does not need to become at all. It matters only insofar as it exists. Here. Now. Love doesn’t require a future.” Speechless & in my feelings is how I feel after this one. It’s a love story, but not the one you’ll expect. I’m not going to say much about anything that happens, because I think you should go into this one as blindly as you can. My thoughts after processing this book: Curveballs can be an unfortunate circumstance of life. How they throw you off kilter, how you can have every aspect of your life planned out, but that doesn’t mean it’s how it’s going to go. This book was a reminder that you can make all the plans for your future, but there’s no guarantee. Chase your dreams & make plans; but remember to also live fiercely & never settle. Be present & hold space for things to change, because life is far too short to always live in the future✨

They told on the package that this book was with my 6 other books and other items ordered. It did come on Monday 15 of April and I was really looking forward to this book and my orders. I would really want a copy of this book! And I also am grateful that they gave me my refund for the missing item Book. On top of that a book was a little damaged pages because of transit. It would be wonderful if target can send me a copy of this book because my book was missing!

Probably the worst book I’ve read in a while. It felt like such a waste of time. Characters fell flat, poorly written, wouldn’t read anything by this author ever again.

One of the most boring books I’ve ever read. I started to skim through starting around page 150 just to get it over with. 😂 The ending was TRASH. :/// The story was tooooo drawn out🤷🏽♀️

I loved the book, all the way up until the ending. I didn’t dislike the ending by any means (other than making me ugly cry), but I don’t like how we don’t know who Dannie ends up with, if anyone. One more chapter wrapping it up. Having some more clarity on the vision/jump to the future would’ve left me feeling more whole.

The story line was not the worst but just not what I was expecting. I thought It would have me feeling like November 9 but it did not this book didn’t catch my attention for long and so I had to skip to the end and realize it was sad but the middle was just very boring. I’m someone who like to read books from Colleen Hoover , Rebecca Yarros, Tessa Bailey , Ana huang , and tillie Cole

It was not at all what I was expecting, but I couldn’t put it down. It’s not light-hearted, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it after I finished it.

This is not a super exciting/suspensful story, which it is not intended to be. It held my attention though and takes you through a lot of emotions. It is an easy read and not too long. I really enjoyed it but I could see some may think it's boring. Not really too much happens in the book. You really just read the main characters dialogue in her head. Again, I really enjoyed readying this book and liked the authors writing style.

Was looking back into reading and I am so glad I picked up this book. It had me hooked the first couple pages. It takes you throw such an emotional rollercoasters. It is full of shocking surprises. Definitely worth the read. It’s a book that follows a journey of two best friends and it’s beautiful.

I got this book thinking it would be a super cute rom com vibe. It started off light hearted and fun, but took a dark turn and just was sad. I finished it because I wanted to know what would happen. It was a good story, but not at all a lighthearted rom com if that’s what you’re looking for.
Easy read, but kind of boring and depressing.

The first half of the book mainly follows Dannie Kohen, a corporate lawyer who has an exact plan for life that has all come to fruition. I found myself waiting for something interesting to happen. 4.5 years pass in just a few paragraphs in the book. Ultimately, sad things happen and many questions are left at the end. It’s an easy read, but not a super interesting story and kind of predictable.
It’s an ok book to read.

The story line is ok. I’ll describe it as plane and simple since the main character and her bf are not interesting at all (lack of character). I didn’t enjoy the ending, the plot. A little disappointing even.
It's overhyped

This book is short and simple, and I think the pace is effective. It was not by any means a literary masterpiece, it often lacked characterization and depth. However, the story itself was interesting and Serle does a good job of taking the reader along with the main character on her journey. I say this because I was surprised several times at the plot twists, just like she was. On this note, the author also did a good job of fitting multiple twists into only 250 pages. The ending brought lots of clarity on the beginning and it shocked me. I'd say this was a good read, I'm glad I read it, but I wouldn't read it again and I don't I'd strongly recommend it to anyone.

To be quite honest I'm not sure how I feel about this book, it's been two days and I still can't wrap my head around it all. Dannie is a controlling and (to me) annoying main character and I would have much rather followed Bella's life of love and art and European countries. The author did add a lot of depth about how Dannie fell into being a lawyer, her love for numbers, he love for a life that "fit" but that all was just not something I really related to. Plus the whole Dannie and Aaron situation didn't sit well with me when it was introduced who Aaron really was. The whole book I felt like Dannie never really had any hope, any ambition to change the image she got of the future or to embrace it. And as we got closer to the date of the vision and I realized what it actually meant I felt that maybe Dannie never really wanted Bella to get better in the first place.
