@smilingmamma This week we are learning all about oceans🌊. Ocean is such a vast and interesting subject to learn. We are definitely looking to add more 📚 about this topic to our home library but for now, here are a couple of good reads. 1. Ocean! Waves for all by Stacy Mcanulty This is such a simple, fun and entertaining book with just the right amount of information.I really liked the narrative being casual and easy to understand for young kids. The book starts with listing out all the five oceans, then talks about when and how the ocean is formed. As you read further, you learn about how the ocean life started from algae to the largest of all the 🐳.It definitely has a short message for the reader about the importance of saving the ocean & the ocean life because without the ocean we can’t think of life on this planet 🌎. My daughter also loves the information and fun facts and would you rather at the end of this book. 2.Inky the Octopus Based on a true story, Inky the Octopus talks about the daring escape of an Octopus 🐙 from his tank from the National Aquarium of New Zealand. The beautiful illustrations grabs the attention of the reader and helps young readers visualize the story. The bonus real stories of octopuses around the world at the end is great! Both of the books are recommended for ages 4-8 years. Review Quotes
"An imagined adventure inspired by real-life escape-artist octopodes... The colors and shapes used to depict the marine life create a great deal of personality and visual interest for the background of the illustrations. Portrayals of Inky's life in the aquarium make more use of white space while the world outside incorporates more color, with the final pages depicting the open ocean and coral reef proving the most colorful of all. " -- School Library Journal
"Inky is a great companion for family trips to the beach or aquarium. In jaunty rhyming verse, Inky relays his tale, which is based on the true story of an octopus that escaped from the National Aquarium in New Zealand in 2016. Inky lives in a "world of see-through walls" and dines like a king on lobster, shrimp and squid, but he yearns to be free in the open sea. The intrepid marine creature squeezes, schemes and slips from his tank and through a tiny drain hole to drop to the ocean below, where he exuberantly exclaims, "I'll follow my heart wherever it leads. I'll travel far and wide." The back matter includes fascinating facts about octopi and brief stories about other eight-tentacle wonders." -- Washington Parent
