Jarrow R-Alpha Lipoic Acid with Biotin has high bioavailability and activity. Jarrow's Na-RALA (R-(+)-Alpha Lipoic Acid) is heat and shelf stable. Most alpha-lipoic acid supplements include equal amounts of the R and S forms. However, only RALA is found naturally in the body. RALA is a unique cofactor in energy production and helps regulate glucose and lipid metabolism. RALA promotes the synthesis of glutathione and the induction of Phase II detoxification enzymes. d-Biotin is a natural cofactor and may complement RALA in promoting mitochondrial health.

I think this is a good product for both improving the aging complexion (ALA) and for strengthening hair (Biotin.) I like not having to buy the Biotin and the ALA separately. A well known dermatologist cites five ways that it improves skin. Swanson also sells ALA creams and they absorb well into the skin to give topical benefit that way also. Be sure to check if your prescription pills are compatible with ALA. Some are not.

On the website it says this product is vegan and vegetarian. It even says so on the picture of the bottle. However, my bottle was not labeled vegan or vegetarian. In the list of ingredients on the bottle and listed on the website, it says " capsule of gelatin." so I am very confused and am returning the product.

Liked this product alot, it is expensive but worth the price, R-ala is powerful. It is a CLEAN product for me, due to no wheat, gluten, dairy, soy,etc...very allergic to such things. will continue to purchase this product!!!

I like the Swanson version of R factor ALA and find it effective. However, I prefer the Jarrow version because of the vegetarian features in the product. In addition, the Jarrow product contains Biotin which is a definite plus. The higher cost of the Jarrow product is something to consider.
