Johnston & Murphy Men's McGuffey Oiled Leather Plain Toe Casual Shoe

Comfortable on flat ground. Sole is too thin to withstand ground imperfections (small rocks, winter salt, etc. ) Laces are very rough, difficult to loosen/tighten due to material and shape. Shoe material is damaged by nearly any contact but looks nice.

I really like this sure but, 1. I can’t take the insole out for my special insoles 2. The leather scuffs very easily.

I had been looking for a shoe that’s somewhere between dress shoes and tennis shoes for a while. Something not flashy but nice enough to wear to work and more comfortable and dressed down than typical dress shoes. This ended up being the shoe for me. I sized up half a size and am happy I did. The leather was a little rigid at first but had gotten softer and more mailable as these sorts of shoes do over time. I really like the off white sole so I don’t have to worry about keeping the shoe perfectly white. Big fan of the shoes overall, I would highly recommend it.

Comfortable and stylish. I bought Daxton sneakers and McGuffey shoes. Both look great and are very comfortable. I'd say they run a little narrow. Most of my shoes are 11.5 regular. I went with size 12 for both J&M shoes due to the width, not the length. The Daxtons are not available in wide at all and wide McGuffey's were sold out so I was not able to try them. I'm happy with both but would definitely like to try size 11.5 wide next time.

These look really nice and are comfy, but they are squeaky.

I bought these 5 months ago and they were awesome. Love the look and they are extremely comfortable. However, after about 3 weeks of wear they developed a squeak or rather a creak. After about another month or two of wear i figured out the creak is coming from somewhere between the sole of the shoe and midsole (under the insole insert). I thought maybe this would wear out of them but that hasn't been the case, it has only grown from a nuisance to a flat out annoyance to to point of not being able to wear the shoes at all.

My left shoe starts the day squeaking then gets quiet around mid afternoon. But the right shoe starts squeaking. It’s coming from the insole below my arch. Very frustrating bc the shoe is super comfortable. I just don’t like announcing myself all day long

Shoes look nice but a couple considerations. #1) The sole inserts have a plastic/rubber bottom that rubs against the bottom of the shoe with same type of material.... so it squeaks a bit when walking. #2) yes, they are water proof but they have the comfort and feel of a rubber boot.

Style is great, but the J&Ms I remember pre pandemic were way more comfortable. I bought the same shoe I’ve had for years and you can feel the difference, there is barely any sole and hardly any padding in the insole. What a shame for 140 dollar pair of shoes.

They fit my wide feet well and are very comfortable. But there is a squeak (that I can feel) in the midfoot insole that is difficult to get rid of. I feel like there should be a forum or something since I see this issue on a lot of j&m shoes

Nice looking shoe but the squeak horribly on any floor other than carpet. Embarrassing.

Having been a JM fan for over 65 years, your shoes are all terrific! These shoes are extremely comfortable and go with all my casual cloths. I now have 20 pair of JM shoes and everyone one is my favorite. Thanks for giving me happy feet!

Within 2-3 months of infrequent use, the shoe's insole flattened. There is no longer expected support or padding

Noticed the McGuffey Plain Toe when looking for a new black/gray shoe to wear to work and the gray option was discontinued. I need something business casual that can be worn with chinos or jeans and not look out of place. I also wanted a shoe that looks good, is well made, and fits my wide toe box. The leather was a bit stiff at first but loosened up by the end of the first day wearing them. The shoe looks great, feels great, and my hope is that it turns out to be a good deal with build quality. I work for a non profit so I can't afford to buy new J&M shoes every year or so.

I walked all over Europe in these shoes. Miles and miles very comfortable ! surprisingly so....

This shoe did not come in my size. I couldn't put my foot knuckle into the shoe. Like the style. Had to return it. Waiting for reimbursement.

I love that these shoes look good and they're comfortable. They're wide enough that they don't pinch or rub on my feet. But the trim of the shoes around the ball of my foot (where they crease when I walk) started peeling away pretty early on, and every step I take they squeak. Very annoying.

This is my second pair, with the first pair lasting me for several years. I purchased a new pair about 6 months ago and within a few weeks (even with keeping shoe trees in after each time that I wore them), the sides began to separate. The price went up, but the quality went down.
