Q: What does waste free mean?

A: Supposedly there's less (mainly sunflower) hulls and uneaten seeds / clean up. I use the Ultra Waste free which seems to be the best but does have a lot of fruit in it which my sparrows and doves dont eat. This one has a lot of corn, most song and outdoor birds dont eat corn and that will always be left in your bowl or feeder to have to throw away or will be pushed on the ground by the birds so now there's clean up! Its such a same the prices have gone way up on seed. Outdoor seed is not good for indoor birds by the way!

Q: Can I safely give this food to my parakeets since there aren't much options?

A: I wouldn't. Parakeets like millet. This mix contains sunflower chips and cracked corn which would be a challenge for a parakeet. Plus, parakeet-specific food has added vitamins and minerals. It's also more colorful which encourages feeding.

Have been using this for years, in 2 states. Always gets eaten completely, unless the feeder mesh is to small for some of the peanut chunks. Fyi, I recommend 1 thing per decade; see ratings.

I usually have a nice variety of birds at my house. the birds won't eat this so now I have hardly any birds. Even the squirrels won't eat what fell on the ground. I'm going back to my previous seed. Save your money. Target was very kind to refund my purchase price.

Birds in our backyard love this, but I didn’t realize peanuts are in the mix. We have a child with a severe allergy and I kept finding half eaten peanuts on the deck, only to realize they’re in the birdseed. It is clearly listed in the ingredients, but I didn’t even think to look when purchasing. Would be nice if it were stated on the front of the package.

I thought to switch up the food for my birds (wild birds) and I bough this bag which was $13 more expensive than the normal one which has the sunflower shells, and my birds did not enjoy it at all. I used to refill their food almost twice a day and after getting this they’re not even finishing the first one. I would return it if I didn’t already open it but I’m definitely going back to the $7 bag (which btw is also 10 lb).

I only purchase "waste free" bird seed and Kaytees brand is a really good one! It's the first bag I've seen so far that has the suet pellets in it. The Blue Jays, Woodpeckers, Titmice, Nuthatches, and Chickadees love it! The Doves, Juncos, and Finches eat the other seeds. There is literally nothing left at the end of the day. I feed them from my deck and feeders in the trees and I love that there is no mess to clean up. The waste free is a little pricier than regular bird seed, but so worth it! Highly recommend!
