What an inspirational story Kip’s is! It should shame many of us for complaining about minor inconveniences or pains. Kip is not even two, and he has had surgery, countless therapy appointments of varying types, and he must wear braces from his knees to his toes to be able to walk. Yet he is a happy, sunshiny boy zipping around the house. Kip’s mother wrote the book to encourage empathy and inclusiveness in young children. Children can be so mean in their misinterpretation and discomfort when they meet someone different than they are. If they discover that Kip thinks he is unique and not someone to avoid or make fun of, it is a remarkable way to break the ice and help other children understand his differences. This book holds the promise of shaping a more empathetic and inclusive future, and I am deeply moved by the intent behind it. Lezanne Bianchina’s illustrations add much to the book. Kip’s emotions are very apparent in the pictures. Thank you to Library Thing and Virtual TH Mom Books Publishing for the ARC.
