I purchased this can opener just over a year ago and it recently stopped working (the rivet attaching the cutter wheel became loose over time, so it no longer cut through the can lid). I went to the store to return it but they said it was no longer in stock and couldn't return it. I called and they said it was outside of the 90-day return window. Not a big deal, it was only $20, but it reflects poorly on Target and has motivated me to shop somewhere else.

Wish I had read other reviews. It opens about 10 cans before it stops opening ANY cans. It's complete garbage.

Loved the smooth operation at first, but then after just a few months it stopped gripping cans and would not open a thing. Total junk.

This is a PIECE OF JUNK. It literally stopped working. Never seen anything like it. Suddenly, ZERO grip on the cans, the handle barely turns, etc. Buy anything else—NOT this.
Worst ever!!!

This thing hasn't worked since the first time I used it about an hour ago. Brand new, just doesn't work. Gears slip, punctures the can but then the gear won't turn the can, and, of course it doesn't open the can. Buy something, anything, else. Your old military p38 opener is a better choice. One star everywhere only because there isn't a zero star rating.

Worked fine and then lost its grip one day although I took care of it. Just like the many earlier reviewers have remarked.

Disappointed - 2 years ago
Such a disappointment. Every person who has used it in the year that I’ve owned it has complained. It literally is awful and a waste of money. I always give them the cheap one for camping which though flimsy works perfectly. I finally tossed it and bought another. I don’t know why I waited but now I’m hesitant to buy anything Kitchen Aid.
Avoid - not reliable

KitchenAid is synonymous with everlasting quality so I was more than thrilled to make this purchase. I got a good full year's worth of it working in perfect condition, and then all of a sudden, this opener just stopped working. I have no idea what happened. I guess for the price, it did its job. RIP LOL ;)

This Kitchen Aid manual can opener worked great for the first 6 months. What I liked was the hard plastic grip/handle which is why I purchased it- the xoOne I had for 15years slowly turned sticky (handle). I’ve now had this KitchenAid for over a year and its gotten a little rusty and the cog will not turn as it once did thus making it impossible to operate or open a can without butchering it. I thought the sturdiness gave it muscle and would last a long time. The material quality is very poor.

This is my second one thought the first can opener was faulty but turns out it's just poorly made and doesn't open cans after a few uses.
After only a couple of months it's rusting

Sprung for the more expensive can opener thinking it would last longer. Nope! Cuts well but rusts super easy. Also handles are not rounded fully so hinges are exposed making it more difficult to clean when liquids get in there (like tomato sauce).

I bought this can opener knowing KitchenAid has always been a trusted brand. Unfortunately, the handle was hard to turn in the first few uses and now it stopped cutting completely just a couple months later. Save yourself the heartache.

Item became rusty a few months after purchase. It’s not made from stainless steel. Also, magnet does not work well.

I have gone through so many can openers in the past. The plastic from the handle breaks off, it’s not sharp enough a just won’t cut anything open, electric ones that are never long lasting and always burn out, hard to clean and ends up rusty…you name it I’ve dealt with it. I’ve known to trust the brand KitchenAid and once I realized they made more than just mixers I had to jump in and try this out! And I don’t regret it one bit! It’s stood up to the test for a culinary enthusiast as myself. It’s very sturdy, the handle is very comfortable to hold on to and the turn knob is large enough that it doesn’t hurt my hands when using it. It’s very easy to clean as well, a simple wipe down or for bigger messes pop it in the dishwasher! It has not gotten dull yet and I’ve used it…A LOT. I’m very happy to have a great quality can opener by my side in the kitchen. And the price point is excellent for such a well known brand! If you’re anything like me and have had trouble finding a good can opener then do not hesitate on this purchase!
