Picked this up going into the weekend when i normally get caught up on building relay and jumper harnesses. Upon opening up the box, it was nice to find that the unit comes with a filter already installed and also an extra for the future. The unit is all plastic but very thick so i feel that it has been built to last. There is a single knob that turns it on as well as the amount of suction power. This allowed me to dial in just the right amount of suction needed for my soldering job varying on what i was working on. It does allow you to spin past the "max" setting but at that point it is almost like a vacuum, i do not see a need to crank it up that high. The flex hose is real stiff and forever holds where you bend it to be near your job. Overall im very happy with the purchase and look forward to doing more wire work and having my fumes properly removed from my work space.

I like the idea of this fume extractor. The design mimics many of the more expensive commercial extractors that are available. However, merely copying the design of higher end extractors does not mean it will be effective. I found much of the fumes escaping despite being <5" from the house. The fan does have quite a bit of power as evidenced by its noise and the force of wind exiting the exhaust but unfortunately this doesnt translate to much suction at the end of the hose. Despite it not working for me, it may work for others and I still find this design superior to those little desktop fans that have a single layer of carbon filter. The filters for this unit are "hepa," (and sold separately) they have a particulate filter and a carbon layer and if youre able to exhaust out of a window this may work for you. Unfortunately, its not as effective for my needs and Ive found a 6" duct fan and some hose do a much better job at extracting fumes.

Very sturdy build.Heavy for it's size and has a good amount of suction for trapping smoke and fumes. Would buy again.Comes with extra filters.

This thing works great! It sucks hard. The only real issue which is more of an oversight than a negative is how loud it is at full power. It sounds like a laptop fan at full spin times 10.

I want to say for the sake of others: I purchased mine April 2021 and the hose came pre-attached. I say this because as of this writing the top recommended review is all about how hard the hose is to attach. Perhaps they changed things due to that, I dont know. Its a great unit so far, nice and strong, a bit loud as you might expect for a strong fan isolated in a plastic box. In all, so far I second what some of the other top 5 star reviews have mentioned.

My first experiment with this did not impress:On max speed, it was louder than Id hoped and yet the smoke seemed to drift past the intake without being drawn in. But Ive used it several more times since then and now Im thrilled.The trick is to bring that intake in very close to the work.Since it has this great flexible hose, thats easy to do.And, unlike other tabletop models, getting it close doesnt mean getting in the way.With the intake close to the source of the fumes, you dont even have to turn the motor up to full speed, so its quieter. Ive got a sensitive nose, but with things set up correctly, I dont smell the cooked rosin at all.I guess the filters are doing a good job, because I can detect fumes escaping from the exhaust either. Yes, its a plastic body and hose, but it seems to be a sturdy plastic that Id expect to last a very long time.I suggest writing the date on a piece of masking tape to help you remember how long its been since youve changed the filters. It seems the earlier problems with assembly and the hose have been addressed.The manufacturer has posted a clear video showing how to adjust the hose where it couples to the base and the intake hood.On top of that, mine arrived fully assembled, so I didnt even need the video.

You dont need this to solder, but its convenient to have it suck away the fumes of your solder away from your project and not letting them float their way over to your face. You can bend the tube to just about any position for your projects, the base weighs enough that it wont fall over.

This is a solidly built fan, metal and heavy housing.

It does a good job for the size of the unit,This hits the sweet spot for hobby soldering.Very powerful little fan for the price.

its a decent product, nice design, no inlet duct leaks, does what it says itll do. Great for the hobby bench but it you solder a lot, know that it needs to be at full on to get decent suction, and its kind of loud at max. The inlet needs to be within a few inches of your work to be fully effective.

This is not a high end unit, but it gets the job done. Its cheaper and doesnt take up a lot of space. The fan is kinda loud, but not louder than a hot air station. I recommend getting the hepa filter bundle. The active carbon filter will catch the majority of the fumes, but it doesnt catch all the fine particles. A few things I would change if I were to redesign it: - Add 1" between the filter and fan, and another 1" between the filter and air hose. This would spread out the airflow more evenly over the filter. - Use plastic or metal instead of cardboard for the carbon filter holder.

I purchased this item for my work bench. I am a silversmith. When you turn it on you will see that it has power enough to suck the fumes into itself and no smoke or smell comes out. It was getting caustic in the shop even with windows open. It was basically noiseless. A little wind sound and that is about it. I play music when I work and with this item I can still play music and solder away. Love it and I recommend it for your shop. Gotta be the least loud fume extractor out there for the money.

This thing definitely helped cut down on the smoke/fumes from my laser engraver. Before I would have to open the window in my shop or the 10x10 room would fill with smoke. Im very impressed with the suction power but Im a little disappointed with the size of the cowl. Its not a huge deal, (especially when it was designed for soldering) I just move it around the workpiece. I would definitely suggest buying the HEPA filter pack for it though.
