men’s measuring guide

Use the tips & visuals in this guide to take body measurements accurately & easily.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Chest

With arms at your sides, measure around the fullest part of your chest & shoulder blades, keeping the tape level & snug.

  • Waist

Bend slightly to one side. The crease is where your natural waistline is. Measure a comfortable loose, level line around that point.

Good Mock Turtleneck

The wearer calls this style his "t-neck" shirts. These were specifically requested because unlike the LL Bean shirts of similar style, this one has SPANDEX in the collar which fits more snugly and is better for instances (like a cold night) when extra warmth is needed

Fabric too thin

Not made with the same weight lands end turtleneck fabric I'm used to. I bought it in white. The fabric was so thin you could read the label print from the outside. I had to return it. Perhaps in a dark color it would be okay.

Beware of shrinkage

I purchased several Men's Tall Mock Turtlenecks. The material is substantial, soft, with a soft drape and a just right amount wearing ease (not tight or loose). I like Lands' End because they offer tall sizes for long arms and torso. Using the recommended washing instructions, the sleeves shrunk an entire cuff length in the gray color. It shrunk a few inches in the body. This makes the shirt unwearable as it is extremely short in the arms. Around the body and the shoulders did not shrink and fits fine after washing. So far the other colors have not shrunk to the degree of the gray color. Very disappointing!

I bought this in 3 colors for my husband who is easily chilled. They look good and keep his neck warm. Purchased Tall Medium for him because he has long arms but is slender. 5’10” and 156 pounds. These are roomy!

Sadly the Lands End brand has fallen on hard times. Once exceptional quality has become well below average.

Fabric is thin. Will still probably buy more because of the neck line but.

Nice Shirt with Room for Improvement

The Super-T shirt is generally well made. Many manufacturers have quit sewing into the neck seam a cloth tag that hangs down. This solves the problem of the tag turning upward and the dreaded ‘your tag is hanging out’ issue. Not that this would happen to this style with a mock turtleneck. I washed my shirt a few times with cold or cool water then usually hung it on an outdoor clothesline. During winter it may have been dried once in a clothes dryer on low heat and removed before it was fully dried. Since the material is 100% cotton these procedures typically control shrinkage. That is generally the case with this shirt too. However apparently slight shrinkage has caused differential change in the fabric. The printed label that replaces the traditional cloth label has created pucker that telegraphs through the fabric and is clearly visible on the exterior. You can solve the dreaded ‘your tag is showing’ issue by simply touching back there and turning the tag down. Sometimes the tag has a life of its own and flips back upward when body movement creates space between your shoulders and the garment. Then the tag has to be removed. But I haven’t discovered a remedy for printed label pucker. The other differential shrinkage issue is the mock turtleneck has developed pleats. The upper circumference of the neckband has not changed diameter at the same rate as the lower circumference along the sewn seam. I suppose a steam iron would help but I’m a wash and wear kind of guy!

I bought three of these shirts in the same size, but only one was suprima cotton and the other two were regular cotton. All were Large/Tall. As I've used them I have noticed that the non-suprima shirts have shrunk so the arms are too short, while the suprima cotton shirt has held its shape and size and the neck and wrist don't stretch out at all.

Best Shirt I’ve Ever Purchased

Easily the best shirts I’ve ever purchased. Finding good, comfortable, high neck shirts nowadays are nearly impossible and this is what I’ve been looking for, for years now. The cotton is perfect and the look is perfect as well. The neck line is made perfectly and more shirts should be made this way. Also, the long & tall option is fantastic as it provides everything I’ve been looking for in a long sleeve shirt so so long now. Keep making these!
