An efficient compass

This is a plastic compass, designed to draw circles of various sizes. This product is easier to use than the venerable two-legged compass. And it is much harder for diabolical 7th-graders to cause injury with these tools. The orange SAFE-T compass, with several dozen holes, is probably easier to use, but that device doesn't allow for a student to draw a circle of precisely the correct radius, while this device does. The compass holds its position through friction; there's no "tightening" of the device that holds the radius constant. Plastic being what it is, eventually the frictive edges smooth down, and the compass loses its ability to maintain a constant radius. But there should be a couple dozen hours of use before this problem occurs. This is the tool I use in the classroom, and I am generally pleased by it. The "protractor" at one end is too small to be of much use.
