I added one to my own Montessori classroom. I also took eight to Guatemala where I train Montessori teachers. Big hit! The geometric fold-outs pair well with geometric solids because the student can see and feel all the plane figures that form each solid. This a powerful and sturdy learning tool.

The nets need to be designed to open on the same side that the 3-D model opens. I used this with my students to create 3-D playdoe models of shapes. They sliced the shapes to discover the shape of faces created by the various slices made; vertical to base, horizontal to base. Several of the 3-D clear shapes cracked on corners as students attempted to place the filled nets back into the shape. This occurred only with shapes where the net didn't open on the side with the 3-D model, pyramids. If both open on the same side, students easily filled the shape and used the net to help pull the playdoe shape from the 3-D clear model.I look forward to any improvement you can make for this manipulative to be more sucessful in my classroom.
Just good and helpful!

I am a dyslexic trained teacher/tutor and work with children who largely need visual stimulus. I find shape my own weakest link in maths and have learned myself.

I use this kit yearly to help my middle school students understand volume and surface area. They really like the colorful shapes and like to use them during tests.

This product is good, kids can really see how the nets fold up to become 3D shapes. I also use it to teach surface area and volume. My only complaint is that the way they designed the net of the cylinder, rectangular prism, hexagonal prism, and the cube make my students giggle and get off task every time.
