Big Fail

I wanted to like this. I am certainly in need of a tool to reinforce emotion identification, but this is a big miss. The graphics are so poorly done that even I struggled to identify the intended emotion. I had to check the instructions. I also don't love that the phone emojis were used. It struck me inappropriate, but I cannot put my finger on why. Perhaps it is that everyone interprets and uses emojis slightly differently. I honestly am not sure, but I don't think they have a place in material that is used for education. Anyway, the other thing that is quite annoying is the word choice. Silly is not an emotion. It is behavior. Tired is not an emotion. It is a condition. Heck, I'll even go so far as to say it is a feeling. It is not an emotion. Frankly, the vast majority of books, games, educational material on the market screws this up. I guess I hold Learning Resources to higher standards than other companies when it comes to vetting the accuracy of their content. Lastly, and probably most important, the "gameplay" is boring! Boring for kiddos, boring for adults. Snooze fest. At the end of the day, that's a show stopper. Even if they had gotten the illustrations and content right, no one is learning anything if it just sits on the shelf.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 4 year old loved this game that talks about emotions and matching those emotions to faces. It's like a mix of bingo and guess who.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Super fun! My four-year-old daughter was so excited when she saw this product. I love that she was introduced to multiple emotions. It lead to us having many conversations! We really liked how the instructions showed us how to use this product in different ways. Great to start teaching your little one!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This game was a little confusing. We ended up making our own game up to learn and talk about emotions with this pieces. Would probably be more suitable for children a little older.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My children love this game! My kids range from 2 years to 9 years and each child was involved in playing this game. We all laughed together and had fun all while still learning about emotions together as a family.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have younger children, and when they're upset or struggling, my motto is: "big feelings for little people!" And I can talk until I'm blue in the face - but THIS actually SHOWS pictures of the feelings. I love how inclusive it was made to be. Multiple races, genders, etc. We play "find the emotion..." during just regular times of the day, but we pull it out to help identify how we're feeling when we don't really know it. We did get this in exchange for our honest review, and I'm giving just that.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a very useful toy for little ones when they're having trouble with their emotions. This is a very common thing in kids and it not only helps them to understand the different emotions but gives them visuals. My kids had some fun with it but I could tell it won't be a game they'll want to play time and time again. The cards don't stay in the board super great so they tend to pop out sometimes if the board is moved or picked up. I see this being something used by guidance counselors in elementary schools!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My toddler thoroughly enjoyed this game. In the era she has grown up in, her interactions socially have been much less than what pre-covid kids are used to. Specifically, due to masks, reading and understanding facial expression and emotion can be more of a challenge. This game was such a fun way for us to talk about feelings and emotions. We discussed what they look like, as well as some causes of the feelings. The card prompts were great because they had two questions on each card; one that was more simple and another that was more abstract. This helped to make it so we can grow and learn further than the surface level!
3 year olds love it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Even though my kids just turned 3 years old, they loved this feelings game. I like that it helps them identify emotions and sparked conversation between our family about what different emotions look and feel like. The little emoji tokens are super cute, too, and my kids loved trading them (they kind of made up their own game after we played)! We will definitely check out other Learning Resources games!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is great in helping your child describe and understand feelings. It would work really well in an education setting and could be used by classroom teachers and counselors! My daughter really enjoys matching the "emoji" faces to the feelings depicted on the cards. Great for younger children!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great toy to help your child understand emotions! I wanted to get started with my son early so we could learn how to express himself better. This cute little game makes it so fun! If you have a more advanced talker, this would be fine at 2. If your child is a little behind or more on the average side, I'd say 2-4!
