Learn to Read by Reading!

I am a teacher and grandma who bought this product for my second grade granddaughter who is struggling w reading. The Word Whiz helps beginning readers review and practice reading words. It helps children who struggle with the different vowel sounds. It uses Dolch words/common sight words which are found in 80% of reading. The Word Whiz is also great for school classroom centers. Kids are into technology and this fits the bill. Enjoy while u learn😀.

I like this product because it's not super complex to use, though you have to supervise the child. This works well if you Sit with them and help them sound the letters out. The other aspect I'm not find of is the timer. For the 5 year old she is just guessing on not of the words and maybe doing some memorization because of the timer. This is good for a starter toy for decoding words.

Poor quality. The digital letter are hard to distinguish a from o from g. The s looks like a five, the i and l looks the same. All what is does is confuse kids. Please don't buy, waste of money

Functionally this is a very nice product except the letters in the answer window have an odd, very very tall by narrow width which makes it difficult to recognize the displayed symbol as a letter. The actual answer display LCD screen does not look like the picture on the package. I would not have purchased the Word Flash if the package accurately depicted the real display. Somebody messed up a potentially fantastic product.

I received this through a gift card online store. It was "expensive" for what it does, and I had to put tape over the speaker in order to make it useful in the classroom.

To give a little background, my son is 4.5. However, he is more advance in reading, so even though he was under the age requirement, Level 1 was a great fit for him. He did come across words that he didn't recognize, such as par and jot, but this opened the door for us to discuss new words and their meaning. At this time, he doesn't get a lot done in a minute, but there is no set goal that he is required to reach. This allows him to challenge himself by trying to beat his previous record. Being the perfectionist that he is, there are times that he gets frustrated with himself for not doing better than his previous score or selecting the wrong letter. As we always do, we just remind him that its ok if you make mistakes and to just have fun. So, here is my honest opinion: Simple to Use - Everything you need is right on the front. A switch for changing levels and two buttons for selecting words. Grows with the Child - It offers 3 different levels that increase the length of words as well as difficulty (incorporating blends). Portable Entertainment - It is small and you can take it just about anywhere. It would make a great addition to your travel game collection. Fun for ALL Ages - After the boy went to bed, my husband and I had fun competing against each other to see who could build the most words correctly in 60 seconds. Overall, this is a great little product. I give it my full recommendation. Parents have countless options for their kids in the "mindless games" category. This is a fun, affordable game that also works the brain. ******************* The product was provided to me at no cost for review, by Learning Resources. All opinions expressed are my own.

My five year old loves this!! He uses it all the time to learn how to spell words he doesn't know yet. He has soo much fun competing with his Dad and I to see who can spell the most words in x amount of time. He always wins!!! This is a great learning tool for pre schoolers on up.
