Q: How many pieces are in this Lego set? Is this something that could be hung up?

A: In the description it says 2316 pieces and it says it can be hung up or displayed standing up.

Q: is this from a 3rd party or is actually from Target per the leggo company?

A: It ships from Target, but 99% chance it will be in a DESTROYED Lego box. They did not even ship mine inside another box so it opened and things were lost in shipping.
