HISTORY ASPECTS: The M10 Gun Motor Carriage (GMC) was the first tank destroyer to be mass-produced by the United States during World War II, entering service in 1942. Built on the chassis of the M4 Sherman, it featured a fully rotating open-topped turret armed with a powerful 3-inch (76.2 mm) gun. The design prioritized mobility and firepower over armor protection, in line with U.S. tank destroyer doctrine that emphasized speed and aggressive anti-armor tactics rather than slugging it out in head-to-head armored duels. The M10 first saw combat during the North African campaign, where it provided much-needed firepower against German tanks, especially the Panzer III and IV.
