Caseta Switches- Why so confusing
3 out of 5 stars

Luton Caseta Manufactures a wide variety of useful wirelessly connected switches. But the product line is remarkably confusing and difficult to browse through. For instance, why are therefore “PICO” Remotes that appear similar on the surface, but have different applications. Why is it not obvious which of these switches include wall mounts and which do ? Who would actually choose to buy one of these switches and not need the wall mount? But the customer must spend an exceeding amount of time to dig into these descriptions, either on the Luton site or the retailer website to try to determine which purchase is appropriate. Very frustrating and hard to decide to become a Lutron customer.

Had to buy to replace the original installed by builder, which died after just 2 years. Preferred a non-dimming one, but had to keep the wiring the same. So far (10 minutes), it’s all good.

These Caseta products are fantastic. Connectivity has been top notch compared to other smart devices I have used. Pricy but almost flawless. You get what you pay for!

When we remodeled our home, the electrician recommended the Caseta system. All works great, except one switch quit working after a couple of years.

I’ve been using Caseta Smart Dimmer Switches for a several years. Since I have some health issues it has simplified turning lights & fans on/off. Some people think flipping a switch or pushing a button is easy (I did at one time) until one has various health issues. One problem that I’ve encountered is that I have two switches in my kitchen, one for the ceiling lights and the other for the island lights. When I have Siri turn off one set of lights they both get turned off. I had to add Kitchen B and use that to differentiate between the two set of lights.

I have multi gang boxes that are too crowded to fit the switches. Moving the main switch to the other end of a 3way and using a Pico removes the wiring congestion. In the kitchen i needed to add an outlet to the existing 4 Gang box surround by tille again i took one of the 3 way circuits and moved the main to the other end of the circuit installed a 5 gang faceplate i added the outlet and used a pico into the extra opening or having to do any work that traditionally would have required cutting tile removing the 4 gang outlet box to install a 5 gang outlet. Reducing a 5 hr or so project into a 45 min project with zero cleanup. Using your imagination the Caseta/Pico features you can retrofit on old house to a 100% modern concept. Oh and using the Bridge everything is 100% voice controlled both locally or from anywhere in the world i the internet acess..

Bought this product for my 1960's house with no neutral line. Installed easily. No problem connecting the bridge to the router and app. Has a small remote PICO that's very handy to leave by the door since the actual switch is 15 feet from the entrance. Dimmer is great, and all of this is voice controlled from Google and my wife's iPhone. Great price.
very nice

We have about a dozen in the house. Works well and pretty straight forward, easy to program. One negative is they don't dimm as much as any other dimmer switch that I've owned. They dim to about 35 percent then stop. I'd like to go much lower.
Great product!

I bought this with a bit of hesitation because I wasn’t real familiar with Lurton products. Can’t believe I waited so long. Took me about 20 minutes to install from the time I opened the box and had it set up with Alexa.
Replaced Insteon with Caseta and I’m happier

I was an Insteon customer (and X-10 before that), and I was sad when they went out of business. They are supposedly back, but I have replaced all of my Insteon devices with Lutron Caseta. It’s much easier to deal with, although it does lack some functionality. (I haven’t been able to figure out if the wall switch can program another walk switch. So far, I’ve got Pico remotes doing most of what I really need). Installation is easy. I did have to get into a neutral to make one work, because that circuit is wired strangely. But overall, it works as advertised and it’s easy to create scenes and program devices. The Lutron app is more reliable than Insteon. It’s just easier all around.

I bought this switch to upgrade lighting in our hallway. Nice manual / installation guide with illustrations. Wiring is straight forward using installation guide. We already had the Lutron Hub set up, so this installation was just an expansion of our Lutron controlled home lighting.

I can’t believe I was a holdout for X10 switched lights. The Caseta switches and hub are 1000 times better. Set and forget. No more adjusting for day light saving times or discovering the light’s didn’t go on or off.

Product capabilities are great. Scenes on app (operation of multiple switches) is very nice along with timer settings. Pico remote is great as well. Does not appear that fan switches can be controlled by Pico. Would be a nice feature.

UPON PURCHASING THIS UNIT IT DID NOT WORK WIRELESSLY OR WITH ALEXA. THIS DOES NOT WIRK WITHOUT THE LUTRON CASETA WIRELESS SMART BRIDGE!! YOU MUST BUY TWO PRODUCTS, UNLIKE TP-LINK WHICH ONLY REQUIRES ONE ITEM TO BE PURCHASED!!

We're sorry to hear about your experience. The Smart Bridge allows you to control your Caséta Wireless controls and Lutron Serena® remote controlled shades from anywhere with your smartphone, using the free Lutron App for Caséta Wireless. The bridge provides multiple benefits over Wi-Fi products: It is ultra-fast and reliable ensuring your lights react instantly every time you adjust them from the app or Pico remote control. The bridge prevents the cluttering of your Wi-Fi network by acting as the single point of connection to the cloud. It is also easier to set-up and enables more local control/integrations with other smart home products. For more information about the Lutron bridge, please visit: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/3685682_why_a_bridge.pdf

Pros: Reliable, well reviewed, looks good. Cons: 1) Buttons are squishy and doesn't have a nice 'click' to it. I didn't even think about this when buying but it would be good for the buttons to be more on the firmer side like a standard button type switch. 2) The memory button in the center is only available on the pico remote. To get the standard switch with a memory button in the center you have to spend twice as much. Sad that the Pico remote has more functionality than the main switch.
