Q: where does the clear plastic washer go to straighten the base? Not explained in the instructions.

A: Hello, I reviewed the assembly instructions and you are correct, there is nothing depicting a clear plastic washer and how it is to be assembled with the lamp. This washer may just be extra packing material to keep a specific piece of the lamp from being damaged during transit however in order to best assist you, please contact us at 1-866-436-3393. Ordered two. They both came with the metal base chipped, poor craftsmanship, an odor, a dark film/dust that had had to be cleaned off under wrapping, and the base cover fell off both. Sent one back due to broken shade (appeared to be a result of shipping damage to box). Replacement had none of the issues of the first two. Wish I would have sent both back. However, even on the replacement the finials are not super strong and not perfectly vertical and shade edges has some frayed edges. Very mixed feelings. Look beautiful but quality is mediocre. Great scale.
