A shake, spoon, or pour of this essential pantry staple delivers a sharp aroma and kick of earthy heat to an endless array of meals and recipes. Our coarse ground black pepper always starts with premium, hand-harvested, whole peppercorns. When ground, the dark-brown-to-black, deep-set wrinkled peppercorns have a distinct peppery flavor that can be blended into almost any dish. Stir black pepper into soups and stews, sprinkle on omelets, salad or vegetables, or rub on meat to season it before cooking. Black pepper mellows with cooking so keep a bottle of black pepper on-hand to add a flavor pick-me-up wherever you need it.

Summary of reviews
The product has garnered mixed feedback from guests, primarily due to the recent change in lid design, which features larger holes that lead to excessive dispensing of pepper. Many guests express disappointment, recalling the previous design with smaller holes that allowed for better control. Despite this, the quality of the pepper itself remains highly praised, with guests appreciating its flavor and versatility in various dishes. The ongoing issue with the lid has prompted some guests to consider switching brands, highlighting the importance of product design in user experience.

Will no longer purchase due to large lid holes!

You told me 4 years ago that the lid hole size problem was due to COVID. I am still switching my old lid to new pepper bottles. I am finished doing this and will buy another brand of pepper. You don't care about your customers.

I love this product BUT THE HOLES ARE RIDICULOUSLY LARGE and I've been buying this for years and the holes were perfect and much smaller. Very disappointed. Please send me some new lids! Or go back to the old size.
What's up with the large openings in the cap?

What's up with the large openings in the cap? This pepper can't be used with these large openings. The old cap was usable and having to remember to switch the cap out on the containers each time is getting really tiresome. Time to find a new pepper to buy. This has been going on for several years and it's time to switch to a new brand. Gave you time to correct McCormick but can't wait any longer.

We're sorry to hear our product did not meet your expectations.
The bottle and images of McCormick® Coarse Ground Black Pepper you have is our previous packaging. We have a new look now!

Providing Feedback - 2 years ago

I opened a new ground pepper and didn't notice the larger holes on the lid. I shook it as usual and the pepper poured out like a rushing river. Fortunately, it happened on something I could rinse off or dinner would have been ruined. McCormick's customer service said the larger holes are what they are using now, but would pass along my feedback. I kept my old lid to use for now, but will have to find a new brand unless this gets fixed.

2 Years ago you stated that you were going back to the smaller holed lids. What has happened. The Large hole lids are still on the coarse black pepper. Disappointing. Ruins food too much spice.

Packaging issue with coarse ground black pepper bottle

When will the larger, 5 hole lid be changed back to the 11 hole lid? I keep reusing my old lid which is starting to wear out - pretty sure I shouldn't have to do that. Also, I teach cooking to kids - they have a really hard time managing the 5 hole lid - some disasters causing tears. Please fix this. Thank you.

The coarse ground black pepper, 3.12 oz. jar is our favorite, but the holes in the lid have been too large for over TWO years! 5 large holes instead of the old 11 small holes. Can't this be fixed?

I don't understand the negative reviews. The pepper is the right size for coarse ground and you can shake out the amount you want. Perhaps some people would prefer a fine ground and less pepper taste?
Great

I'm not sure who the Bozo was that thought it would be a great idea to widen the holes on Black Course Pepper bottles, as well as Garlic Salt and Garlic Powder as well as many others. This is a brand i would recommend you stay away from. Not being able to control seasonings on food is not good for any consumer., as well as the company. I suggested getting rid of CEO that approved this change to their spice shakers. Lawrys doing the same thing. Time to switch brands.

Hi Tim. Thank you for your question regarding our McCormick® Coarse Ground Black Pepper. We understand this is not the ideal lid choice. We are currently working through a packaging component constraint and using the caps available through our supplier. We appreciate your patience as we resolve this issue. ~JM

As long time users of McCormick spices, we are in the process of switching to other brands As many previous reviewers have stated the cover with 5 large holes are not suitable for most spices. There used to 11 smaller holes in the same cover size. Reviewers have been complaining about this for a long time Your response about the supplier being responsible is getting old.

This is getting ridiculous. Apparently this is not a new issue. Your customers have been complaining about the overly large holes in the pepper for a long time. Its quite an eye opener when you're not expecting it and you've dumped a ton of pepper on something that needed a sprinkle. Is this something you can change? Can we please have an update? Thank you.

What happen here? The holes are too big in the lid. Too much pepper comes out. McCormick, change the lid back to the smaller holes. The pepper itself is great, but the lid situation is frustrating.

Complained months and months ago re large-holed lids that can wreck a meal. You obviously don't care b/c it's still not fixed. I shop at a big store with lots of product turnover. Check every time I shop until now because I am won't support a company that thinks so lowly of their customers. I am done with McCormick.

So it's now three in a row for the supersized lid holes. Surely your supplier can tool his machine to make the 11 hole lids required. Great product, but you're going to lose customers to other spice suppliers if you can't get this problem fixed.

The issue with the overly large cap holes (dumping out way too much pepper) has been going on for over a year now. The response is always the same "we're working on it". I gave up hope that it would be fixed and no longer use this product.

This is my go-to cracked black pepper. BUT - the new containers have huge openings that dump way too much pepper. I'm guessing this was a brilliant marketing ploy to get people to use more black pepper, but this was a mistake. My fault for not recognizing the new, huge, gaping holes on the top of the dispenser. Ruined a recipe! Please go back to the former lids/dispensers.
