Battery compartment will not open

Bought this flashlight to be a Christmas gift and just tried to open the battery compartment to put in the batteries. The small screw turns and turns but we cannot get it open. We have tried different Phillips head screwdrivers and we have tried prying the plastic while turning the screw - nothing! Won't budge. Very frustrating. It is a useless flashlight if we can't put in batteries. From other reviews, sounds like if we did get it open the batteries wont even fit.

My son got one of these for Christmas and just now asked for batteries. They won't go in. Not only that, I messed up 2 batteries even trying to get them in. I am seeing people had that same issue. So my guess is it was a defective lot. He requested it specifically since one of his friend has (hers works) and he was obsessed. The casing is sturdy and it is in general well made. Just not functional due to the battery issue. All other Melissa and Doug stuff we bought was very well made, so this surprised me quite a bit.

Can confirm it is impossible to fit the batteries in. Xmas gift that can’t be played with. Not sure how you sell something without realizing this problem lol pretty crazy.

We inserted two new batteries and it did not work. We verified the correct battery placement and we tested the batteries (even though the batteries were brand new). Disappointed as I purchased this item at a toy store that is not in my location.

We got it, and it was PERFECT. It was dim enough it didn’t cause the baby to wake up, it turned off on its own, and was durable. The batteries lasted forever on that thing. But within six months, we went to change the batteries, and the flashlight wouldn’t work. It just completely stopped doing anything. It broke my 3 year olds heart because she didn’t have a flashlight to read with at night.

Bought two of these, one for each granddaughter. They were to be used with Usborne books that had hidden pictures that a flashlight would uncover. Also, their daddy loves camping, so I'm sure these flashlights will be used often.

Got these for my granddaughters to put in their Santa Stocking! Perfect for that! They love getting in their tent with them or playing hide and seek with daddy! The only thing I don't like is they come on too easily. You have to make sure they aren't touching anything (like stuffed in the stocking) or they come on.
This is a great product for young girls.
