Melissa & Doug Wooden Construction Building Set in a Box (48pc)

This set along with other Melissa and Doug wooden construction sets are too nice not to have a storage lid to keep pieces together. Please sell a wooden storage box with lid to keep these fine toys together. I bought the construction set and the countless ways to spell puzzle kit with 64 loose little letters to keep up with without a storage system!

My preK son received this kit as a gift. We love most of our Melissa & Doug toys, and he is definitely enjoying building creatively with this kit. Unfortunately it is very flimsy - four of the wooden pieces have snapped, in "clean" snaps that are nigh impossible to fix with wood glue. This is with a fairly normal rambunctious 4- almost 5-year old style of play, mostly by accidentally dropping/banging into something. He broke two of the longest pieces the very first night he opened it and was devastated to realize he could no longer build most of the suggestions on the box. He also gets frustrated that the screws and bolts from this kit aren't mix-&-match compatible with the ones from the toolbox toy that he already had (which, incidentally, has a limited number of wooden pieces that have lasted for two+ years now). Overall this isn't the long-lasting quality that I expect from Melissa & Doug.

The set is great. Very disappointed that the tools and screws are not interchangeable with the Melissa and Doug tool kit that we already have.

My grandson will love this. It could be improved by the addition of a lid to the box. Otherwise it is perfect for the young mechanically minded youngsters.

These are great quality and easy to put together. The pieces are double threaded so they can screw on any direction(no worries about pieces being upside down) and this prevents the pieces from tightening after a certain point so they come off easily. My 9 month old can easily play with this and have fun with brother. One problem we found with this toy is that it comes with a cool storage box but no lid. The pieces get lost pretty easily without a lid so if you get this plan on getting another container to store them in.

My mom bought this for my daughter for her third birthday and she LOVES it! He favorite thing to build is train tracks!

Bought this to go with the work bench. Love it and so does my son.

This set just doesn't work. I am a mom who is ok with my kids getting frustrated or having to work at something to figure it out, but even I am fed up with this set. The pieces just don't fit together. The threadings don't match. Some are too tight, and some too loose. The heads keep breaking off the bolts beacuse we're turning them so hard to try to make them fit the too tight threads. And to be honest, there's just not that many interesting things a four year old can build with this set.

The screws and the holes are not properly aligned and it is difficult to fix the products. You will not be able to fix one item as per the pictures provided.

Very deceptive packaging. All brightly colored cardboard inserts made the set look like a good sized toy with many components. When inserts are thrown away, the wood box holding the pieces is way too big. Who pays attention to the number on box of parts and then mentally figures out that really isn't a lot of things one can make ? One of the lime square bolts broke soon after playing with set as hole was not large enough to go on screw to hold it in place. Screwdriver was not sized correctly. This grandmother will not shop "Melissa & Doug" toys.

I have ordered 5 of these kits so far! Daycare kiddos love them!

Run a dayhome. 4 year old boy out his finger in the hole of the flat wood piece. It got so stuck I had to save the piece off to get it off his finger. So unbelievably disappointed and disgusted. This may have been a very large medical issue not to mention hospital visit

We loved it! Our grandson loved it and immediately opened it and built a machine with it. His parents were so pleased, as was he. We will likely look for more advanced packages for him in the future. A great constructive toy!

Very sturdy. My 3 and 5 year old grandsons love it but there aren't enough pieces for both of them to build something so that is why I bought this as a second set.

Nice wooden starter set, but not all pegs are drilled correctly, so some screws can't go in. Also, as people have mentioned, it's really really limited. You can only build 1 thing at a time since there aren't that many parts and only 1 car as it only comes with 4 wheels. It is priced fairly for what it is.

I can't tell you a thing about this item, as it was a gift and the child has yet to play with it.

First of all, screw driver was missing and then the preservative pack, I'm assuming it is called, was stained brown on top of it but underneath toys where toys were touching it?? Very concerned and very disappointed

Im a firm believer in toys should build things. Hand eye coordination, spacial skills, patients, motor skills, and actual things. Plains, houses, blobs, or what ever their awesome little brains come up with. This toy does do that. Now heres the buts. It has a limit, no expansion pack, the box holes are not even drilled to allow the box to become the base of something like a big car (nor is the spacing of the holes right for a pannell to be put across nor is bbn their enough parts to make the box a car with these faults), the threadings are super tight on some of the pieces, the screw driver is useless due to previous stated issue, and there should be more parts and not cardboard fillers where more parts could be put. All in all its all right but seems to be anther buy use and grow out of. Construction style toys should be a be able to grow with your child. End line is we got our dollars worth of fun.

I bought this for my two boys who love it. Problem is, it's very limited. This would have easily got a 5 Star from me, but there's no way to expand the collection. It's like if LEGO only made a kit where you could build one thing and then they just stopped there. It would be great if there was an expansion kit with, at least, more screws, bolts, and peg boards. As of now it seems my only option is to multiples of the same set.
