I purchase this radio 1 week ago and found the radio had lot of nice features. But the setup instruction are vary confusing I found how to reset the radio from a You Tube post unlike the rest on my other WR 120 on which you told owner how to do it. a Also why 2 different setup instruction One is on the battery door and the other in the owners manual.? a Also the Antenna input if found has to match the telescope on the unit if not you get a loss of Db on the signal The owners manual is a little vague on setup of functions and could use some clairfacation 73's

My little town depends on this weather radio W400

I had the previous model of this radio I purchased in 1999. Just now, 25 years later, have I needed to replace it. As mayor of a small town, I monitored severe weather and sounded the outdoor siren. I lowered my rating to 4 due to the fact I use the external alert jack. On my new W400 it seems the jack is a closed switch and is never off. Not 1 mention of this feature ANYWHERE. Maybe the new W400 has a NC switch, I can't seem to find out ANYWHERE.

Excellent Midland wr400 Radio 📻

Easy to set up, excellent MW, FM and NOOA Weather Band reception but it eats 4 AA batteries 🔋 in less than 24 hours. All my other Midland Radio ER-50, ER-210, ER-10 And other have rechargeable batteries. They should have that feature with the ER-400. So I decided to plug it in all the time with no batteries. Problem solved but it is annoying 😑

Battery drains while it is plugged in

What kind of emergency weather radio has such a design flaw that it drains its backup batteries while it's plugged into the wall? This one does apparently. I put batteries in it 3 days ago and already it's down a bar, unplugging it from the wall also has such a delay on it switching power sources that it loses the time. Also the viewing angle on the display has such atrocious viewing angles, that you can only read it from very specific angles, none of which are desirable unless you plan to hang it on a wall. Overall, pretty disappointed in this radio, especially considering the price.

This is not just a Midland radio issue with batteries depleting. This happens with all electronics. If you are unhappy with your purchase we would be happy to work with you on options. support@midlandusa.com

Easy to set up and easy to read the new display. USB is nice too. The output switch is a great way to trigger an alarm system or home automation system.

Best Weather Radio Currently On The Market

Two years ago, I decided to buy a Midland WR400 radio receiver for my kitchen. I love the fact I can listen to local AM/FM radio stations in the morning when I am eating breakfast, or in the evening during suppertime. However, the best part about this radio is that even when I listening to the local news or music on the broadcast bands, if a weather alert for my area is issued by the National Weather Service, it will automatically interrupt the AM/FM radio station so I can hear the emergency announcement.

Basic, Simple, and Good Quality

I got this radio for the main purpose of alerting my family in the event of a tornado, especialy overnight. I've only had the radio for a few weeks now, and thankfully no threats have come, but the radio has picked up local county weather alert tests which confirms it's ability to sound the alarm in a real event unique to my area. In all, it is basic, simple, good quality.

After investigating the features and the reviews of others about this radio I decided to purchase it. I found the shipping to be quick and the shipment packaging to be adequate to prevent possible damage during shipment. So far the radio works as advertised. I have clear NOAA and AM-FM reception. However with radio on a flat table you cannot see the display clearly from across a room. The display is very clear if you standing right at the radio display to 8 feet away.

Poor reception. Programming was easy, but the rx needs some help. Very difficult to gain good reception in my house. My 5w HAM handhelds have crystal clear NOAA reception sitting next to it, but this radio from it has a lot of static. Does not reliably sound alerts. Currently researching a better antenna, or may just return or sell it. It’s a shame. I really like the custom programming options and the ability to turn certain alerts on and off.

Best Weather Radio

Best weather radio I've owned yet. The WR400 is a digital clock radio integrated with a SAME-capable weather radio. The added features are very handy (built in cellphone charger & adjustable brightness nightlight). The instructions are clearly written and user preferences are easily set. Receiver sensitivity for FM and WX bands is sufficient that no external antenna is required at my location. I'd rate the WR400 at "5 Stars" overall if AM reception (which is marginal at best) were better. Overall, I'd recommended the WR400 to anyone.

easy to order, easy to set up. Placed order and had radio quickly. It was pretty much plug in play outside looking up which channel I had to tune it to for my area. Used the NOAA site to find that information.

My son is obsessed with collecting weather radios. We have been very happy with Midland and all the products they have developed. I do think my house is going to shake the next time we have an alert go off because we’re probably up to about 16 with the radios at this point. Shipping is fast and the company is great! He hopes to eventually work for Midland and develop new technology

Hi Tom Cat, We are not able to find a ticket in the system regarding this. If it was a warranty issue we would have been happy to provide a prepaid return label. This radio is meant to be run off of AC power and will only last for 3 days with traditional batteries as that is not the intended purpose of this radio - it is meant to be plugged in. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Support@midlandradio.com
