Q: What type of wood is this made of? "Hardwood" is nonspecific and I seriously doubt that it's walnut.

A: Hello Curious, this coffee table is made out of Rubberwood, which is a medium-strong density hardwood and has good durability. The walnut refers to the finish applied to the wood that gives it the brown color. Hope that helps!

I reduced to 4 stars because of assembly issues. Assembly was fairely easy. The problem was two of the dowel holes in the bottom shelf were bit to large and deep. I resolved this by dropping a small wooden tooth pick in the hole then forced the dowel to the correct depth. I then cut the tooth pick level with the shelf so it wouldn't obstruct the side pannel assembly. Assembly is much easier if you use an ellectric drill with a phillips bit. As mentioned in many reviews, I read on other sites, the table is a bit darker than pictured. It came well packaged. The coffee table looks great when assembled. I'm happy with the purchase.
