Monoprice Outdoor 2.1 Speaker System with 8-inch Subwoofer and 2.5-inch Satellites (3 piece) - Sycamore Series

Love the concept. Sub is buried and 4 speakers are in pots two 2.5 ft and two 4 ft above the ground. If only the outdoor wire was cheaper this would be a great buy. Sub is boomy not punch which I don't like. Speaker problem is the thin wire posts. I had to use a small piece of regular 14g speaker wire stripped to 16g, this lasted a year and a half before corroding. Speaker terminals surprising look new as well as outdoor speaker wire. I stripped one screw on the speaker terminal trying to install a new wire. I am using a cheap mini chi-fi amp claim 165Wx2 or realistic 165W. Loud expect 90-100db constant music. Anything louder than 100db amp over heats going slightly over 103db and spikes at 106 db. You can do better with a portable boombox or Bluetooth speaker at $ half K. So pick if it is worth installing and not having to move a big box speaker, and place where it is not worth stealing? You have to dig up the speakers with that flat wide washer or break the plastic stand, so vandalization over thief is more likely. For me only if cooper wire wasn't so expensive I would purchase this again, otherwise I want a noticeable upgrade for a back yard.

I had higher expectations for this sub overall. The satellite speakers are horrible, from the connections to the sound quality. I trashed them and installed the woofer only. I'm wondering if I should have bought two to get better sound but I'm not sure I'm willing to drop extra money and dig another hole to find out.

I bought PID 31034 and 31037 to have a total of 4 tweeters and one sub. I struggle a while to figure out which waterproof wiring box would be best for that scenario. I had 4-wire cable run to the sub from the amp, and 4x 2-wire cables running to tweeters, plus the cables that came in and out of the sub (which I believe was 2x 4-wire cables). Together that made 7 cables that needed to traverse the walls of the junction box. Though, you may want to future proof and buy the things for 4 tweeters and find a way to plug the extra holes for now. Perhaps a dowel? Good luck. I used the wiring terminal that came with the box for the 4-wire to the sub, then the GKEEMARS for the outputs to the speakers.

Bought the sycamore 2.1 system in 2021 and the subwoofer has already stopped working. Very disappointed. Would not buy this system/brand again.

worked great for almost 2 years. now completly full of water. never had any flooding just run off from drip system so probably leaked from the begining. I would recommend putting silicon on all joints and wire fittings before burying.

Exceeded my expectations in terms of sound quality. Friends have the Sonos system, but I can't tell the difference sound-wise, despite the Sycamore system costing 75% less (and that includes purchasing the outdoor amplifier separately). My only complaint is that satellite speaker stakes & stake tips are flimsy. Nothing broke when I installed the speakers in the ground, but I was very careful in order to avoid a problem. Monoprice could invest in higher quality design & materials and still maintain a huge price advantage over the much more expensive Sonos.

Just wish the instructions on wiring were more detailed. I pretty much had to figure it out myself. I called tech support for help and was told the wrong thing.

Really fills out the pool area with some amazing sound! Easy install - hardest part was running the wiring, but that was because of my design location, etc. Would definitely recommend!

I purchased the sub and 2 sets of the satellites during the pandemic. I just got a chance to install them all, and here are my thoughts. The pair that run off the sub go down to 4 ohm mono and sound strong and great, while the second set I have running straight from the amp on the other side of the patio sound ok for background but not that great. I wired them in parallel to knock it down to 8 ohm, but still not enough. It seems I really need to get another sub for the other side as well if I want the same level of sound. Overrall I am happy, but I wish there was a different solution.

Bought this unit in July. Within three weeks a satellite speaker stopped working (I verified the speaker wire was good with another speaker.) Two weeks later the subwoofer stopped working even though the signal is still traveling to the three remaining satellite speakers (I bought an extra pair of sycamore speakers.) All the reviews are good....I'm super disappointed in the junk I received.

I have the speakers installed next to our hot tub outside. The satellite speakers over power the sub, seems as if the sub is intermittent while playing music.

Easy to install. Sound very good, especially compared to my previous rock speakers. Only thing I didn’t like is they were out of stock. Got a notification they were back in stock, so I ordered them, and a week later they went on sale.

I’m a sound quality nut, but I can’t justify spending ridiculous amounts of money to get there. I didn’t have high hopes for this system due to the price, but ordered it based on existing reviews. I was shocked. The sound is far beyond anything I’d expected. The value of the sound quality far exceeds the cost. I bought 3 sets of these for around my pool and front porch. Definitely money well spent!

Sounded great. Easy hookup, but it is a lot of work to bury the sub, having said that, the sub only worked for 10 days. The satellite speakers still work passing through but no bass....

This is a great speaker setup for the backyard. The build quality is pretty good, and it sound very good. Is it audiophile, HiFi quality? No. but these are not supposed to be that. They do a great job in filling our patio with nice sound and volume level. I went ahead and get the additional pair of satellites speakers.

I needed bass outside. Had great speakers but they just couldn't pump out a lot of bass especially at lower volumes. We live in a neighborhood so there are houses (and neighbors) 100 feet or so from us. Can't crank up the volume to 11. HOWEVER, we can crank up the bass with this sub. We have it hooked to its own 300W amp so we can keep it at a higher level and always have great bass response. We looked at others that were $500 or more. I am sure they would have worked, but I can't imagine them sounding any better. The bass is deep and rich and has a great punch. Our back yard is about 150' wide with a big pool in the middle. The sub It is buried way over off the deep end of the pool. (You can hear it under water.) You (We...) can't tell where the bass is coming from. It saturates the whole back yard. It is pretty amazing. ALMOST bought a second one initially, but now I am glad I did not. It would be too much bass for us. We bought the satellite speakers but did not use them. Too small for our back yard. They sound decent, but just don't have the ability to punch out a lot of sound. I instead mounted them on the dash of our golf cart. Perfect!

This sub is set up to wire the speakers directly to the sub which transmits sound to each speaker. It looks like it would accept a total of four speakers. I ran all six of my speakers to separate channels on my amp and ran the sub to its own channel as well and it all sounds great.

The speaker connections on the satellite speakers need a design improvement. They are very hard to work with. Other than that the system sounds great.
