Description
An XLR to RCA cable converts a balanced audio signal into an unbalanced signal. This is good for sending audio signals from an XLR source to an RCA input, or vice versa. Regardless of direction, the result will be an unbalanced signal.
This is a premium quality cable with gold plated connectors at each end. The cable is made with two 16 AWG oxygen-free copper conductors, in a twisted-pair arrangement, and is shielded along the full length with copper braid with 97.5 Percent coverage.
This cable uses the standard pinout with pins 1 and 3 of the XLR connector wired to the shield of the RCA plug and pin 2 of the XLR connector wired to the tip of the RCA plug.

I bought this to use for a connection between a preamp XLR and a subwoofer with only RCA. The most common is to have the inverted signal connected to ground, which is not great for you preamp as it shorting an output to ground (most can tolerate it). Fortunately I was able to de-solder the inverted input connection leaving it open while the regular signal is connected to the RCA. Very happy this is not injection molded and can be easily modified as needed. If using this with a microphone input, it?s wired correctly as is.

I was expecting a nice budget cable. What I received is a really nice cable. They have a premium feel and look to them. I'm using them for my LFE outs to a older pro amp for subs and they work great. Would recommend for sure.

All four cables as received had the ground/shield connected to Pin 3 and the negative connected to Pin 1 on the XLR connector. The normal accepted configuration in the US has the shield/ground connected to Pin 1 and the negative connection to Pin 3.

I assume that the products works well. My complaint is that I called for clarification for whether it would work for my intended purpose -- to connect my preamp out (the XLR side of things) to my DAC (the RCA side). I was told it would. It did not, unfortunately. I later learned that this plug will not work because it is essentially connecting a preamp to another preamp. When I switched and used tape out (RCA connections on my amp) to the DAC it worked fine. So there you have it. A nice, but unnecessary set of cables from Monoprice. I'm glad they were only $15.

My two-star rating may or may not be fair...I already had two similar cables from another manufacturer that I had used about a year ago in a similar application, and they worked fine. I planned to use those two cables along with these from Monoprice to connect the balanced outputs for the side and rear surrounds on my Anthem pre-pro to a four-channel amp lacking balanced inputs. After installing the cables and firing the system up, there was a loud buzz in the surround channels. I turned everything off and verified the connections were correct and secure and tried again...same result. Then I removed the four XLR to RCA cables and installed RCA-only cables between the pre-pro and the amp. Everything worked fine, so I have to assume there is an issue with the Monoprice cables, although the buzz was present in all four of the surround channels.
