  • A: Thank you for your question. Mucinex® Fast-Max® Adult Liquid Severe Congestion & Cough contains guaifenesin, dextromethorphan, and phenylephrine. Guaifenesin is not known to cause drowsiness. The active ingredient dextromethorphan has been shown to produce drowsiness in some patients. Phenylephrine is known to be a stimulant which can be considered non-drowsy. These three ingredients together cannot be considered non-drowsy due to the inclusion of dextromethorphan.

You should not use this product if you are currently taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI prescription drug.
