A: Hi Alicia. Thank you for your question. Mucinex® Children's Multi-Symptom Cold liquid contains guaifenesin, dextromethorphan, and phenylephrine. Guaifenesin is not known to cause drowsiness. The active ingredient dextromethorphan has been shown to produce drowsiness in some patients. Phenylephrine is known to be a stimulant which can be considered non-drowsy. These three ingredients together cannot be considered non-drowsy due to the inclusion of dextromethorphan. Hope this helps.

My son wouldn’t stop coughing and once this kicks in, it works! Coughing eased/stopped and he was able to sleep through the night. He doesn’t seem to be fond of the taste, but we give it slowly and chase it with candy or a fruity drink. Will be sure to make sure we have this on hand in our medicine cabinet.

It's difficult to get my daughter to take medicine, but the Very Berry flavor helps with that. My son has been taking this medication for 3 days because natural remedies Zarbees didn't help with cough and congestion. He has ADHD and autism. Although his cough was managed and he slept through the night, he had significant irritability and out of the blue behavioral issues at school. Mucinex did mention possible side effects that I was not aware of about attention issues.

My kids are very picky when it comes it comes with medicine, but they took this one without a fight, it takes good both of my kids like it, finally a cold medicine that my kids don’t hate. The best thing is that it help to feel better sooner! Package is very nice and colorful, with the little cup it makes it easy to take.

My 5 year old refuses to take this “red gross stuff”. It has a strong smell and is like a mint berry flavor. If I can get her to chase it down with water it does help.

As long as my daughter's symptoms are going to respond to these active ingredients, I think this medicine does the trick as expected. She absolutely HATES the taste, though. It would be nice to have a longer-acting option so I didn't have to convince her to take more 4 hours later.
