Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Cereal - 12ct / 13.25oz Box

Flax is the richest vegetable source of Omega 3, essential fatty acids our bodies need to regulate the activities of our cells. Unfortunately flax has the tendency to emit volatile odors that are associated with chemical smells (sometimes described as fishy, chemical- like, petroleum-like, etc). The odors indicate the fats in the flax have oxidized or turned rancid. Rancidity can result if the product has been exposed to warm shipping or storage conditions. To ensure the maximum shelf life of cereals with flax, storage in a cool, dark area – even a fridge - should be considered, especially over Summer months or if you live in a region with a warmer climate. It is also better to keep bags of organic cereal tightly closed with a twist tie to keep the cereal fresher if you do not plan to eat the cereal immediately. Most organic cereals have about a 1 - 2 month life once they have been opened and exposed to air. They will then smell off. With organic products it is important to regularly check their best before dates. Nature’s Path foods do not contain artificial preservatives & may have a shorter shelf life then non-organic food.
