Mexico has entered a state of "necropolitics" that views the population as so much interchangeable and dispensable merchandise, whose worth is decided by political and economic factors.

In this book, somewhere between a journalistic piece and a sociopolitical essay, esteemed journalist José Reveles traces the route that Mexicans and their governments (or rather, narcogovernments) have followed in dehumanizing their countrymen.

JOSÉ REVELES (1944) ha sido periodista durante casi seis décadas. Los reportajes y más de una docena de libros que ha escrito se enfocan invariablemente en los derechos humanos. Desde la perspectiva de las víctimas, aborda temas como la corrupción oficial, el narcotráfico y la violencia. Ha ganado dos veces el Premio Nacional de Periodismo. En esta obra explica cómo operan los gobiernos en un trabajo de muerte que cosifica al ciudadano: necropolítica y narcogobierno van de la mano para justificar estados de excepción, crear una noción ficticia del enemigo y encubrir una realidad corrupta en la que se reprime a ciertos grupos de la delincuencia y a las mayorías empobrecidas, mientras que se protege a organizaciones criminales empoderadas e impunes.
