Q: Is this a new recipe along with the new packaging? The fat content has increased from 4.0% to 8.0%. My dog loves these but is on a very low-fat diet and these treats are now too high in fat for her.

A: Hello Shelley, The only change made to product was the removal of very small amounts of garlic powder. The difference in fat content is due to the normal variation of fat levels observed with grass-fed beef. Because we use real muscle, we have little control with fat level content and the labeling regulations for pet food and treats require us to account for such variability. Although we have not made any changes, other than the garlic powder, we had to adjust the fat content in the label to account for the normal variation that we see with our beef. Q: Why is there garlic powder listed as an ingredient? Regardless of how small amount it may be - garlic is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and I'm not sure why anyone would actively use it as an ingredient for their food.

A: It is soft enough to tear into smaller pieces to feed your pet. So if you have a smaller or elderly dog you should be able to tear smaller pieces off for them to eat.

This particular bag I got had red spots in it and initially I thought nothing of it because I’m a vegetarian and not sure what jerky is supposed to look like but then my dog started throwing up. I had been trying to figure out what it was and found hair or bristle in the jerky. I immediately threw it out and haven’t given it to my dog in two days but he still threw up a piece of it this morning.
