Description

About the Book

Everything happens for a reason, Maddie Grayson believes. But her motto gets sorely tested when the new minister parachutes into town and offers her a chance to change what happens next.

Book Synopsis

For Madison Grayson, life is good. Newly licensed as a marriage and family therapist, she can't wait to start her practice. Despite the unfortunate shortage of eligible bachelors on the island--they're all too young, too old, or too weird--Maddie feels like she's finally found her sweet spot. Not even one panic attack in the last year. Not one.

And then Ricky O'Shea drops in. Literally. Floating down from the pure blue sky, the one man in the world she hoped never to see again--the one who'd been her archnemesis from kindergarten through her senior dance--parachutes into town, landing on Boon Dock, canopy draping behind him like a superhero. Ricky O'Shea. Now Pastor Rick, the new minister on Three Sisters Island.

Time to panic.

With wit and a bit of whimsy, bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher invites you back to Three Sisters Island where family, forgiveness, and a second chance at love await.

Great Contemporary Romance!

I don't know what I like best about this book. Is it the setting of Three Sisters Island, or could it be the realistic characters that live there and seem like they're old friends of mine? What about the suspense that is just enough to keep me guessing or the way the author adds little nuggets of advice and wisdom, along with moments of humor, as she tells her story? Could it be that all of these reasons combined are the reason that I enjoyed On a Coastal Breeze so much? This is the second book of the Three Sisters Island series and I quickly fell in love with the people of this beautiful place. The main focus of this book is Madison Grayson, a newly licensed marriage and family therapist, but her two sisters and her dad are also included, along with Ricky O'Shea, the new minister who is also Madison's old acquaintance. To say that their past relationship is complex is an understatement but this is what adds so much interest to the present. Could there possibly be a future for the pastor and the therapist? Susanne Woods Fisher has written an entertaining story filled with faith, trust, love, and family. I want to learn more about the residents of Three Sisters Island and I'd like to go back to see what is next in store for the Grayson family. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. A positive review was not required. These are my own thoughts.

Having read the first book in Suzanne Woods Fisher's Three Sisters Island series, I was eagerly anticipating a great read with On a Coastal Breeze. I was not disappointed in the least. I loved going back to the Island with all its quirky inhabitants. Many were introduced before but some new ones were added--most interestingly, the new pastor, one of the sister's, Maddie, childhood nemesis. Each of the sisters, with unique personalities, have unique issues that are motivating decisions, some good, some perhaps not so good. Good-natured humor is incorporated into the drama of this book and it all just draws the reader in and doesn’t let go until the end and still, this reader wanted more. Unexpected twists in the plot with some to make you smile and some to make you wonder, whoa, where’s that going to go? And of course, there’s romance! Will Cam and Seth ever set a date? And how about Maddie and the new pastor? Can old resentments be forgotten and love emerge? What a great story…a story of family and community, of learning and maturing, of hope and healing. I am so looking forward to more in this series. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit. A favorable review was not required and opinions are my own. This review is part of a CelebrateLit blog tour.

I was so excited to be able to read this book. I was blessed to read the first book in the series, On a Summer Tide, and couldn’t wait to get back to Three Sisters Island. In the first book you meet Maddie, Camden, and Blaine. Three sisters who aren’t a lot alike, but love each other anyway. I would recommend the first book because it introduces you to a host of fun and unique characters. That being said you can easily read this book as a stand-alone novel as well. On a Coastal Breeze focuses on Maddie, the middle sister who also happens to be the glue of the family and a newly licensed therapist. Maddie is finally settling in to life on the island. Recently her dad bought a camp he had went to when he was a teenager, and the sisters helped him reopen it for buisness. Last summer went great, and now she can focus on being the therapist she’s trained to be. That is until someone from her past drops in from the sky and ends up working in the same building as her. Ricky was the one person she least expected to see, and him showing up as the new pastor without warning causes more than a little anxiety. Can Maddie and Ricky learn from, and get over their past and start again? I loved seeing the chemistry between Maddie and Ricky. It was fun seeing little snippets from their childhood and getting to know what shaped them into who they are today. Woods Fisher kept my interest the whole time, and I had fun guessing what Ricky could have done to Maddie in the past. I enjoyed seeing Camden, her son Cooper and her fiance Seth, and watching them grow and mature as well. I can’t wait to get my hands on Blaine’s story! I kept finding myself wishing I was reading on my kindle so that I could highlight some of the passages. Woods Fisher wrote some great lines and I enjoyed the little snippets of Ricky’s sermons. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction. I had a hard time putting this book down once I picked it up, and enjoyed every moment. I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishing and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

If you haven't spent a summer on the island yet, pick up this book and go there now! On a Coastal Breeze takes place the summer following On a Summer Tide, and this volume focuses mainly on Maddie. She is now a certified, practicing therapist, eager to help people and operate a profitable business. I found that I especially liked her. She is grounded in Scripture, and has the knowledge and winsome personality to help people, through her marriage and family practice. She is the go-to person when you need a listening ear. She can also be the no-nonsense purveyor of truth. But reading through, it happened that she and each of the main characters had problems that need to be confronted. That's what kept the book so believable-everyone was dealing with something. One thing I love about reading this author's books is the way I am drawn in by a relaxed, comfortable writing style. It's like going home. In this case, it's going home to a beautiful island with all of its wonderful and quirky characters. This novel can be read as a stand-alone, but it's best if it is read as a sequel to On a Summer Tide. If you're looking for a great summertime read, this is it! Readers of inspirational contemporary romance and women's fiction will certainly enjoy this book. I received a copy of this book for m the publisher, Revell, through Celebrate Lit, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

captivating sequel to the Three Sister Island series

"If you had no fear of death, then that vague dread that constantly hovered - it could be vanquished. Not just managed or discounted, but eliminated. Overcome. Conquered. Defeated." Suzanne Woods Fisher is a gifted storyteller with a voice that wraps around your reader heart to deliver heartbreaks, showers of grace and mercy, and tender reconciliation. This is book 2 in the Three Sisters Island series, and, though it could be read as a stand-alone, it's better read after Cam and Seth's story in On a Summer Tide so you're better acquainted with the minor characters of the island who truly make the story more lively. Filled with family tension, misunderstandings, issues of fear and anxiety, and faith lessons of facing life's challenges head-on, the story will have you falling in love with the island and its inhabitants while walking with them in their daily lives on a remote island off the coast of Maine. This story focuses on Maddie, the middle sister who starts a counseling/therapy center on the island. She's the glue that keeps the Grayson family together and works overtime with her sisters and father to help them become more self-aware. The islanders call Rick to be their very first pastor and he sweeps everyone off their feet but there's a lot of history between Maddie and Rick which come out in flashbacks. Misunderstandings and secrets swirl around all the Graysons and Rick. All the four Graysons (Paul the father, Cam the oldest, Maddie, and Blaine the youngest) have a voice in this story, which is fun because more pieces of all four of their lives come out in each book. This book delved deeper into the characters' thoughts, motives, fears, and dreams. What will the third book hold? I can't wait for Blaine's story! Fans of well-written contemporary romance will thoroughly enjoy this book and the series. I received a copy of the book from Revell via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Life is Slow, as R Electricity & Maturity

Welcome back to Three Sisters Island, where life is slow, electricity is spotty, and there are no secrets. Yet, in On a Coastal Breeze, Book Two of Three Sisters Island by Suzanne Woods Fisher, we find that life is messy. Each sister in the Grayson family, plus their father, has a few secret fears. Paul, the father, is having a rough time being administrator of Camp Kicking Moose. Cam, the eldest, is putting off her wedding in favor of island improvement. How long can Seth wait? Cooper needs more attention than Cam is willing to give. Will this family-to-be happen? Maddy is settling into her dream job of counselor-therapist when Ricky O’Shea, the bane of her young existence, drops out of the sky...to become the new pastor. “As a boy, Ricky O’Shea had stolen her heart. As a man, he was back to claim it.” Can Maddy decide whether she hates or loves Rick? Blaine is as unsteady and unable to finish a goal as ever. However, she has a wonderful friendship with Artie Lotosky. They’re so fun, warm, and they totally understand each other. No wonder everyone but Blaine thinks they’d be a good match. As always, Fisher has a charming sense of humor, with characters that are warm, real, and flawed. It is easy to identify with them, imagining them as your neighbors or even bits of yourself. Fisher’s voice and easy ebb and flow of words set the tone for an island that you almost want to locate for your next vacation. However, the waiting list for Camp Kicking Moose is a little long. While I usually groan at lists of characters in the beginning of a book, it was very helpful to ease my transition back to this beautiful fishing island. I believe this book could be read alone, but I strongly recommend reading it as its part of the series. We are left with enough unfulfilled hopes and unanswered questions at the end of the book to gratefully look forward to book three. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher via Celebrate Lit and NetGalley. (I also purchased my own copy.) This in no way affects my opinions which are solely my own.

The Lord will complete what his purpose is for me. Lord, your gracious love is eternal; do not abandon your personal work in me. — Psalm 138:8 Once again the author has drawn such a beautiful picture of Three Sisters Island and Camp Kicking Moose that I am almost envious of those who get to live there! This book centers on Maddie, the middle sister, however, the rest of the family is certainly not left out of the narrative. Cam is totally into her efforts to make the island self-sustainable as far as energy is concerned, sometimes to the detriment of her relationship with Seth and Cooper. Blaine, returning from her first year of culinary school, does not want to continue - once again struggling with finishing what she has started. Paul, their father, seemingly has his own struggles. In all, this book had me doing a great deal of reflective thinking. How easy it is to quit before you get started, or be so involved that you forget those that are important to you! Maddie’s new career as a therapist perhaps precipitates this deep thinking through her dealings with her clients. Each of these wonderful characters seems to be dealing with fear of some kind. Will they manage to face those fears and move on? This second book in the Three Sisters Island series can stand alone, but the depth of these characters will leave you wanting to get to know them better. In fact, I am already anxiously awaiting the next book! This digital copy was received through Baker Publishing Group, Revell books, NetGalley and CelebrateLit. All comments and impressions are my own and were not solicited.

A Wonderful Story!

"Oh my word . . . . . . He said he was going to parachute in today, but I didn't think he meant literally." Oh, he meant literally, alright. When Three Sisters Island's new pastor lands deftly on two feet, with the predicted parachute trailing behind him, the island residents are automatically intrigued. Everyone, but Maddie Grayson, that is. She cannot believe that her childhood nemesis is . . . . first of all a preacher, and second of all, going to be living and working on the main floor of the building which houses her newly formed counseling practice. Of all the nerve; Ricky O'Shea. Of course, the island's small church community grows quickly; Pastor O'Shea is a gifted speaker and has the ability to preach God's Word in the simple, genuine kind of way that appeals to his audience. As Maddie finds it harder and harder to hold on to juvenile grudges, she is also distracted by the unrest within both of her sisters. It's turning out to be quite a summer on Three Sisters Island. Written with the ease of a seasoned author, "On a Coastal Breeze" captures the essence of authentic, as each sister struggles to conquer her own invisible fears; feeling totally inadequate, incessantly driven, or incredibly inept. Filled with a surprising amount of wisdom and depth, this story is a solid, enjoyable, and quite romantic addition to the series. "Did you know that 'fear not' is mentioned three hundred and sixty-five times in the Bible? One for every day." "God has not given us a spirit of fear but power and love." . . . . "and a sound mind". I received a copy of this book from Baker Publishing through Interviews and Reviews.
