"Which one is it? Because guilt is real and it makes us run to forgiveness. But shame is what the devil uses to get us to hide from God." This sums up the story well, both Oaken and Boo are hiding from shame and need to let go of the guilt they feel Another epic story from the author, this time set in Alaska with the Air One Rescue team. Plenty of edge of your seat action, suspense, spiritual insights that will smack you in the face (I love these), romance, humor, danger, murder and adventure. All of the characters are wonderful and I can't wait to read there stories. I loved that some of the Kingston clan showed up too. And......“Because why not? Every girl needed a good rescue at least once in her life.”

One Last Shot kicks off with a bang and only gets more intense throughout the story! Warren has more than proved that she has the writing chops to take on any hero – or heroine – and she fully does so in this action-packed story. Yet as they take a breath – they don’t get much more than that! – between each action sequence, Warren’s signature wisdom characterizes every page. Oaken and Boo are not just muscled people in capes, riding in to save the day and taking off again; they grow real right before your eyes, with deep hurts, hard problems, and fears for the future. The lessons they need to learn, all penned in Warren’s signature style, will resonate with each reader because they’re grounded in scripture and real life both. I’m just happy that we can learn these lessons along with Oaken without having to jump out of any helicopters! One Last Shot is the perfect way to kick off the new Alaska Air One Rescue series. It connects loosely to previous characters and stories but brings to the forefront new heroes. It’s full of high-octane action and loveable characters who will keep you entertained all while quietly speaking to your soul. If you’re a fan of the romantic suspense or high adventure genre at all, then pre-order your copy today. This one needs to be in your collection. “You can trust that God loves you and that he’ll carry you through the storm,” Oaken in told in Susan May Warren’s novel, One Last Shot. ~ What ~ The first book in the Alaska Air One Rescue series, this three-hundred-and-twenty-one-page paperback targets those who like a Christian contemporary romance about being on a rescue team in the Alaska wilderness while learning to forgive and love. With topics of injury, attempted murder, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes acknowledgments, a teaser of the next book in the series, the author’s biography, and advertisements. In this first book in the series, musician Oaken Fox agrees to go to Alaska and shoot an adventure show, trying to redeem himself in the public’s eye. When he is praised for helping rescue the show’s survivalist, he agrees to film with the Air One Rescue team. But to rookie EMT Boo Kingston, she doesn’t want the attention due to her past fiascos involving social media. The two must work together as they go on dangerous callouts, learning to trust God to rescue them from the anger, fear, and pride of selfishness. ~ Why ~ This is a good start to a series about heroes who risk their lives to save people who are stranded or hurt in rural Alaska. I liked learning about the inner workings of a rescue team as well as the often-materialistic agendas of the entertainment industry. I appreciated the calling out to God for help as the protagonists forgave themselves and others. ~ Why Not ~ Some may not like a series involving the cold, dangerous terrain of Alaska, but it is not overdone. Others may not like the focus on Oaken’s and Boo’s insecurities and fears, although it plays well with the story. I found some of the characters and plot stereotypical at times. ~ Wish ~ There is no mention that Jesus is our one and only savior, who died and shed His blood on the cross for our sins and rose the third day. I prefer all pronouns of God capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you like a romance series where you want to cozy up in a warm blanket while reading about heroes who rescue those in Alaska, this one about learning to trust others may heat you up.
