About the Book
The world is shouting at us to be more, to strive harder, and to never stop pushing. In her evocative writing style, Mikala Albertson takes you through her transparent and gritty story of chasing a perfect and pretend life and invites you to embrace who you already are: loved, imperfect, mostly ordinary, and so very on purpose. From the Back Cover
Beauty is Found in the OrdinaryThe world is shouting at us to be more. Strive. Achieve. Overachieve. Never stop pushing. As a family practice doctor, wife, and mother, Mikala Albertson appeared to be living a "perfect" life, but really her whole world was falling apart. Married seven years to an alcohol and drug addict while raising two young children and finishing residency, Mikala eventually reached a breaking point. And surrendered. In sifting through the shattered pieces of her life, she realized she had been chasing something that doesn't exist. Perfect is pretend. And what she desperately needed to embrace was ordinary. A good, hard, messy, gritty, lovely, ordinary life.
In Ordinary on Purpose, Mikala shares her heartfelt journey in a raw and revealing way as she invites you to lay down your own endless chase for perfection and embrace this beautiful, messy life exactly as it is with our perfect, loving God right by your side. What would it look like to stop pretending to be "perfect" and be ordinary? Instead of always feeling overwhelmed and alone, you might discover the beauty of a good, hard life grounded in the radiant hope of God's unending love. Life happens in the ordinary, after all.

On every page, I was met with Mikala’s authentic, beautifully written words revealing her journey to discovering real, personal faith and the beauty of an ordinary life. Not only did I find myself soaking up every word of Mikala’s story, but I found the encouragement to live and be satisfied with my own ordinary life.

This book is nothing short of exceptional! The blatant transparency and total honesty about some of life's most difficult circumstances will never be forgotten by anyone fortunate enough to read this book. Mikala's refreshing perspective allows you to stop striving and searching for extraordinary but to stop and see the life and beauty in the ordinary. You won't regret becoming ordinary, on purpose!

In Ordinary on Purpose, we are given permission to stop striving and to start embracing our good, hard, ordinary lives. With candor, insight, and raw storytelling, Mikala Albertson tells the story of the kind of brokenness that comes with keeping up appearances, and the redemption that comes afterward—when we surrender control and start living right where we are at. This is one of those rare books that draws you in and speaks to you so deeply, you never want it to end. As the author says, "Life happens in the ordinary," giving us permission to finally stop trying so hard and start embracing the life right in front of us.
