Summary of reviews
Orville Redenbacher's popcorn kernels have a long-standing reputation for quality, but recent reviews indicate a decline in performance. Many guests appreciate the traditional stovetop popping method, which yields fluffy popcorn when done correctly. However, there are concerns about unpopped kernels and tough texture in recent batches. Guests recommend using the right amount of oil and heat for optimal results, while some express disappointment with the current quality compared to past experiences.

Popcorn changed for the worst

This popcorn has changed and not for the better. It used to pop large, tender but crunchy popcorn now it pops small and dry like cheap popcorn. It also used to have a buttery flavor on its own and I could always tell what was your product because it was consistently tasty. I won't be buying this any longer spending a lot more money for terrible quality.

A winner since I lived in NW Indiana

I grew up with Orville Redenbacher's in Northwest Indiana in the early-1960s to mid-1970s. I've rarely if ever been disappointed with the results from popping the original yellow kernel popcorn in a cast iron skillet with a bit of oil. Microwaving a bag of Orville Redenbacher's might be more convenient, but I like the skillet method best.

3x's the Price, Same Stale Taste of Store Brand

I just purchased the 30 oz jar of popcorn kernels and I used it in my air popper. The product was extremely disappointing. The popcorn was stale and it cost 3x the amount of the store brand which is not real fresh, but it was much better than Orville. Wish this was a better review. I love popcorn and I've been using this brand of microwave popcorn for years, however the kernels truly disappointed.

Orville might be spinning in his grave. I've been using this brand for years, it was the gold standard. I have an excellent electric popper and it used to pop the 8qt top off with 2/3 of a cup and a tsp and a half of oil. For the last 6 months I have to make 3 batches to fill the same bowl. Tried different stores, even different countries. They are all duds now. Will be returning the last 2 dud 8lb bottles and looking for another brand.

Use Pot - Follow Directions For Perfect Results

Has never failed using oil & pot. We have followed the directions and use our 49 year old family popcorn pot. (had tried air poppers and popcorn makers but when back to tradition). 1/3 cup popcorn plus two table spoons of oil (prefer advacado but will use canola as they have high temp ratings ) - place three kernels in pot, when they have popped add the remainder. When the popping is underway let moisture escape (can use screen or let lid lift) so it is not tough. (too much oil -tough, too little oil or too cool may not pop, too hot may burn). We have had success.

Possible Substandard Kernal Production

I tried this out for the first time switching out from those old microwave bags due to my health relating to palm oil and I gave this a try. I put it on the cooktop following the instructions and half of the batch was unpopped kernals. At first, I thought this was just simply a bad batch but then I went to buy another one and got the same result. As for the overall feel of this product, it's nothing too eye-catching, it's just your regular old popcorn kernels that you get at the movie theater. I'm a tad bit disappointed at the unpopped kernels, it's like switching from microwave bag to stovetop did nothing. I may not buy this again, and I may advise people to do the same, but maybe in the future whenever this issue is corrected, I will try this again.

I have been buying this for years. I grew up with stove popped popcorn and it is my favorite. For those who are having issues with all kernels popping, it is one of two things, you either do not have enough oil, or you are not cooking at a high enough temperature for long enough. Every single time I pop this popcorn, every single kernel is cooked. No seeds left over ever- and this has been the case after going through several bottles of popcorn over several years.

I bought one bottle of kernels about a month ago . Only about 1/3 of the kernals popped. Thinking it was a one off, I threw out the bottle and bought another. This bottle is the same. I tied the olair popper, the microwave and the stove top. Same result. There is definitely a quality issue based on other recent reviews.

My dad has made home made popcorn since I was a kid. I learned how he did it on my own and recommend nothing else. Cover the pan surface with a thin coat of oil. Put the popcorn in just enough for every kennel to have a one kernel even layer. Don’t let them be two kernels high. Start with a little and shake to get them even. Move the top of the pan slightly off to let the steam escape -otherwise your popcorn will be soggy. Turn the setting on your stove to 7. Meanwhile-Melt 2 tablespoons of butter for 45 seconds. Listen to it pop, when it slows down to a pop every second or two, slide it off the heat. Don’t open the lid yet, it will continue to pop for a few seconds. Take the top off and pour half into a bowl. Put 1 tablespoon of butter on and mix it up. Put the rest of the popcorn in your bowl. Add another tablespoon of butter. Mix it up. Then sprinkle one teaspoon of salt and shake.

About 1/3 to 1/2 of the kernels are not popping in my air popper. Other brands pop almost all the kernels, so not a problem with the air popper.
