About this item

The 30L, blue-colored, midnight Everyday Backpack v2 from Peak Design is a versatile bag that is designed for photographers, multimedia creators, or anyone whose carrying requirements can benefit from its compressible, size-adjustable design that minimizes bulk or can be expanded as needed. Multiple magnetic latches for its top flap allow this backpack to vary from 20.4" to 24.5" in height, while inside, three dividers allow items to be stacked within the main compartment. The dividers also feature foldout surfaces that can be configured to cushion and hold items against either of the Everyday Backpack v2's zippered side openings. Since the side openings are positioned to face the wearer when the bag is rotated from one's back to front with either side facing upward, the dividers provide the ability to ensure which items can be most quickly accessed from the bag's sides. When this Everyday Backpack v2 is worn, a zippered sleeve with dedicated pockets for a 12.9" tablet computer, a 16" laptop, as well as their chargers and cables rests behind the shoulders. To store and organize batteries, memory cards, small electronics, or personal items, the inside surfaces of each of the side openings include a both a slip pocket and zippered pocket. Along the exterior of the side openings are two large, open pockets that can each hold a water bottle, tripod, or monopod; any one of which can be secured using the included short external carrying straps with the gear loops located above each pocket. Long external carrying straps are also provided. With the additional gear loops distributed along the surface of the Everyday Backpack v2, those carrying straps allow equipment, accessories, or packable clothing to be fastened against the bag's front panel. Alternatively, the long external carrying straps can be used as rear loading straps to secure items under the bottom of the Everyday Backpack v2. The Everyday Backpack v2 can be carried using the wide, built-in handles along its top, sides, or by its adjustable, shoulder straps. For heavy loads, this bag's sternum strap can be used to more evenly distribute the weight being carried. During storage or transport, the shoulder straps can be magnetically fastened against the rear panel, which also features an integrated luggage pass-through, allowing this bag to be mounted onto a rolling case's telescoping handle for added convenience. Featuring a durable, nylon construction, the Everyday Backpack v2 is built to be weather resistant. To further protect its contents should the bag be placed on a wet surface, the bottom panel is waterproof.

Top Notch Quality

Have been using for several months now and honestly I'm still finding little extras every week that just make this bag a pleasure to use. Small pockets line larger ones, many locations for any sized items, multiple ways to enter the large portion of the bag, multiple laptop/tablet sleeves--its a just a pure pleasure to use.

Having this bag close to a year now, I have no regrets! Great in functionality and practicality, customization, build quality and looks. Everyone should get one! While sometimes I wish that I could have the 30 litre, the 20 litre version is suffice for my needs.

A clear upgrade over V1

Got V2 as a warranty replacement for the V1. V1 looks more fancy, more fancy elements, more leather, etc, but V2 is just much more practical: laptop compartment, internal side pockets, etc. Few changes I did not like comparing to V1: 1. attachment loops are not tethered to the pack and have plastic instead of metal buckets, 2. Shoulder straps have additional “wrapped” padding, which is probably much greater from the durability perspective, but makes the pack to look much cheaper, 3. No integrated hip belt (not like you need it for a 20L every day, but was nice to have while biking).

2 Key Critiques

I love Peak Design and will still buy their products. But please consider these for next iterations! 1. The luggage slot on this bag goes in sideways. This is inconvenient because 1). one side of the bag is unreachable, 2). accessing the top back slit pocket results in contents falling out and 3). the slot to put the luggage handle through is larger than my luggage bags, resulting in a slide from side to side making it difficult to balance the bag. 2. The bag does not fully open from the back. while it is okay most of the time, it is much more practical to be able to pull the whole back part out to access contents, especially if it's in the middle of the middle (not easily accessible from the sides or the top). Otherwise the bag is sturdy, looks great, has many features and I still use it everyday.

A fantastic daily backpack

Bought it a couple of years ago with an idea that I might return it if it’s too focused on photography equipment. Never happend. I’ve been happy with the backpack ever since and with its versatility. And, believe me, I used it for everything, from work to light tracking. Sometimes wish it to be lighter, but new products that fit the bill are coming.

I upgraded from the v1 to this new design and I really like what they’ve done with the pocket organization and build quality. This bag is the perfect combo of minimal design but yet high function.

I'm not usually the person who writes reviews, but when i do, i mean it. I've owned many, i mean many backpacks and was never satisfied, but since I've owned a PD backpack, v1 and now v2, I've never changed since. I love this backpack and it's now my daily go to, for photoshoots, to work or just casual out and about. Just an absolute great backback that serves more than it's supposed to.

Best backpack I've ever owned

I originally bought the 25L Everyday backpack couple of years ago and used it for everything. Went for hiking, travelled with it, used it for day-to-day use when needed. And after putting my backpack through all of that, it was still like new with no issues whatsoever. I ended up selling that and got myself a 35L because of size and being able to fit more stuff inside. No issues so far. I've taken it to hiking, traveled to three different countries, been on airplane, just give it a quick wipe with damp cloth and it's like new. Would recommend this to everyone. Thinking of replacing my 35L Everyday with a 45L Travel and 25L Everyday, but it'll get expensive.

Just the best photo bag for everyday use

I take my bag everywhere, on assignment, at parties, on trips. It's functional, it's beautiful, it's wonderfully well thought-out and every component is sturdy. And even if, after 5 years of intensive use, the zipper gave out on me...the incredible peak design lifetime warranty saved the day by providing me with a complete new bag!!!! You are undeniably the best photo bag brand ;-). Bravo ! PS: Experience of a professional photographer for over 25 years, having used two other big famous brands...none of them measure up to your products.

Great general purpose commuter + photography bag

This bag is a proper do it all workhorse for me -- I have a fairly small mirrorless camera with a pancake lens and a few other accessories, and this bag carries the camera, an extra lens, and all of my work essentials with plenty of space left over for groceries, and other miscellaneous items in the top compartment thanks to the internal dividers. Sure it's pretty expensive and seems to have a few design flaws (magnet adhesive on the backstraps, and sternum strap) but the lifetime warranty more than makes up for those in my eyes. Further love the side access points and magnetized everything as far as interacting with the bag goes.

Missed the trick

I'm a fan of Peak Design, so it amazes me how a design flaw so big got through... There's no strap to pull the bag closer to the shoulders. That usual strap that you pull from above your shoulders and makes a huge difference in any backpack is missing, which means this backpack weight pushed on my lower back and kept pulling my shirt up constantly. Had to return! I still use the original messenger and have other PD stuff, but this one is a sad story for me.

It is very comfortable on the back, even if heavily loaded. The 30L version is ideal for short travels and everyday work. Be sure to order it with the waist belt. I was unsure what I would get, but I realized it was a good choice once I received it. Its semi-rigid design is great for organizing the space and acts as a protective shell. I suggest adding some magnets to the waist belt ends to keep them in the closed position when not using them.

Trip report - 2 weeks in Greece

I used the 20L (plus a hardshell carryon suitcase) for a 2-week trip to Greece. Lots of pros and only 2 (pretty minor) cons. Pros: fit everything for day of walking in hot/dusty conditions. I used it as personal item on plane, beach bag, and for days of hiking and sightseeing. Put passport in hidden compartment under top flap and used security features on zippers. Compartments kept food, extra water and gear, micro beach blankets, etc. all separate and protected. All the means of access and secure pockets made it easy to access things in ferries and during car rides. Laptop was totally protected. Did well with sand and salt water. The luggage passthrough was a huge win - very secure in airports and walking around cobblestones. Only cons: 1) it was hard to fit under seat in front of me regardless of which class seat I was flying and 2) I couldn't fit both a laptop and an ipad pro in the zippered compartment, so I just brought my personal laptop (which ended up being find but for work travel I like a personl laptop or ipad in addition to my work pc).

I love this backpack! While it is a steep price, for those are willing to spend a little (... or a lot) extra, you will not be disappointed with its comfort, modularity, and just overall ease of use. It really makes a difference and protects my expensive technology, especially being a college student.

I love this bag for everything from work to weekends to travel. It’s very professional so I can use it for my office job, but also practical enough to bring for a week trip as a single bag. 20L is great for day trips and a stretch for a weekend trip. 30L makes things comfortable for weekends and longer travel. If you’re a 5’10+ person, i think 30L also looks better on your frame.

I was in need of a new backpack. I already owned a few products from Peak Design, so I knew they also sold backpacks. After watching the explanatory videos on their website, I got excited about the many features. Once I bought the backpack, I realized it had everything I had hoped for and more. The various ways you can organize the contents and the ability to open the backpack from the sides are really convenient. Additionally, I find the design modern yet timeless. Besides all these very positive features, I do want to make one remark. For the price, a rain cover should have been included as standard. That’s why I’m giving this purchase a 9 instead of a 9.5.

7 YEARS WITH MY Leica x Peak Design V1 Capsule

5 out of 5 stars
Tuananh - 5 months ago

It’s been 7 years with my Leica x Peak Design V1 Capsule backpack. I purchased this bag from the Leica Store Los Angeles way back in 2017 and I’ve taken it with me on every single trip to nearly every single continent on this planet without a single thread out of place. The Leica emblem “red dot” on the back corner of the bag and on the left shoulder strap still distinguishes the bag from many others and its tan interior looks amazing after 7 years of gear shifting, shoving, and squeezing for those long flights and excursions. Magnetic side pockets still stay strong without any tears and are a quick storage for sunglasses, headphones, straps, water bottles and chewing gum. The compartmentalized internal side pockets are heaven-sent and store my keys, passport, journal, pens, and cables. Currently, I have the center compartments split into 3 FlexFold sections: my rangefinder sits on top for easy access with the Maglatch, my medium format or video cam sits in the middle and distributes the weight well, and the bottom compartments are for film, chargers, WB sheet, and snacks. The internal sleeve fits my 16” MacBook or iPad easily, and I love the extra shallow storage area above the sleeve and the hidden area inside the Maglatch to store extra cash and SD cards. The 20L is discreet, light, and fits under plane seats, and easy to hug or kept secure under your arms when you’re in risky areas. I’ve used the external straps to latch on my trusted Filson Mackinaw Cruiser for any unforeseen weather, or I've even strapped on a Peak Design Sling for additional storage that passes as a carryon. I also have hidden inside the front panel is an extra rain cover for the bag, extra sets of Peak Design Leash, Cuff, and Anchor Links. Lastly, the bag has small anchor loops that I've used with combo locks and carabiners to secure the bag from theft and water damage. The durability, modern design, comfortable fit, and inconspicuous form is perfect for everything situation I've been in, whether it's for work or play. The patina on the Maglatch is probably the only thing that dates the bag, but I love the battle scars and stories that my bag can tell! Shout out to Peak Design for creating an exceptional product that has been a joy to own. As I enter my 8th year with this bag, I still don't see another bag in the market that can rival its versatility and durability, and so I highly recommend it to everyone who is in search of a bag that is nearly perfect for the needs of a working photographer.
