Q: How should I be using this product? I purchased to use as a finishing powder, but I have seen many reviewers refer to it as a foundation. Is this a pressed powder foundation?

submitted by mrsg - 5 years ago
  • A: This item is not a foundation: • Lightly brush on powder over face and neck to even out skin tone with a natural-looking finish. • For the most even application, be sure to tap excess powder from brush before applying. • For best results on dry to very dry skin, apply moisturizer prior to using powder.

    Best for extremely sensitive skin

I’ve been using this powder for several years now, for my extremely sensitive and dry skin. Nothing else suits my skin. But I’m noticing that you’re moving away from this line of your product towards newer additions. First you discontinued Translucent Light shade (my perfect shade), then bringing new products with extra unsafe ingredients. Please don’t do so. At least don’t discontinue or minimize the best product that started me and many more like me on PF . I’m requesting to bring back the Translucent Light shade and keep this particular Mineralwear minimalist formula forever.

The powder itself is good but I won't buy again-- after a month of use the powder has totally broken apart to the degree that I can't use it without making a big mess. Will be throwing away and buying something else probably from another company -- don't want to risk this happening again.

I love this stuff! It's a staple in my makeup bag! My skin is so temperamental, and now that I'm older, this powder seems to be the only thing that stays on my skin well. I mix the shades to get a perfect color combo. Good skin prep is key to any make-up appl. My skin gets super oily, it's gots the pores, and some texture, but this stuff covers it all!

I had this in a pick up order yesterday. The box is different but the product code is the same- except this product, as far as I can tell after reading the entire box - doesn't have SPF in it. Very disappointed as that's why I bought it. I'll be returning it later today.

Used PF Mineral Wear Powder for a Decade

    4 out of 5 stars
    Smilodon - 2 years ago
    originally posted on Physicians Formula
I used the creamy natural powder every day and exclusively for nearly a decade up to Spring 2021. It was so fast, convenient, smoothing and offered just the right level of light coverage for me. The SPF was a bonus. I never used the cheap brush included, but used my own fan brush to apply. In 2021 I thought it was too dark/orange and was starting to look cakey on my aging skin (51 y.o.). Also, like many other reviewers, the packaging and product would almost always break apart before I finished the pan. Such a waste of $ made me cry. I highly recommend this for women who would rather go out and enjoy or conquer the world then spending their time and money on makeup.

I wanted to like this powder, it's talc-free and fragrance free and reasonably priced. However for my skin it was just too drying and made my skin look textured and dry. I am in my 40's with combination skin and wanted to use this primarily in the T-zone and under my eyes, but it's not good for my skin.

    Best powder ever!!!

I’ve been using this mineral face powder for over 20 years. I initially began using it in my late 20’s when I suffered adult acne and wanted a gentle non-irritating product that gave my skin full coverage without looking heavy or mask-like. My acne eventually cleared up in my early 40’s and though I tried many other foundations and powders, I kept returning to Physicians Formula Mineral Face powder and continued to use this every day in lieu of foundation. I’m now 53 years old and still love this product! It tones down any redness, evens out my skin tone and gives my skin a flawless, natural look. Over the years my favorite cosmetics or colors have been discontinued but this is the one product I can’t live without and probably can’t find a comparable replacement. Absolutely love and recommend it!

This powder has an amazing smoothing/blurring effect when applied on top of foundation. I use it in my Tzone to set and smooth over pores and It gives a little extra coverage as well, but not as much as a foundation powder. It really smooths the skin and blurs pores and dry texture. I don’t like to use it all over the face, my base looks a little heavy to me when I do but I love to use it strategically just where I want a little more coverage and to blur. Love that it has a little SPF too! 😀

I use this all the time! This product has a good coverage, and it's great if you need a little extra coverage on a blemish or a pimple. It doesn't keep my skin from getting oily throughout the day, but I think this translucent powder might work better if you have a different skin type than mine (oily).

    Natural Skin Finish

    4 out of 5 stars
    Amy - 3 years ago
    originally posted on Physicians Formula
I've used this off and on for years. It works great over a foundation, tinted moisturizer, or alone on well moisturized skin. All depending on the coverage you want to achieve. I prefer a more natural skin-like finish, so use it alone, but if I want more coverage I use a tinted moisturizer under. It doesn't irritate my sensitive/reactive skin--I have psoriasis--and doesn't overtly accent age lines, when applied lightly. I use a dual-fiber stippling brush, gently sweeping and buffing the product onto my skin. The 'hidden' compartment containing the brush and mirror is cute While it keeps the mirror from being coated with powder, I'd rather it was just a standard compact. I'm not sure who designed the brush, but they should go back to the drawing board, or better yet, scrap the idea. I get what they were trying to achieve with the fan shape, but it's too small and the bristles are too short and too stiff. Kudos to anyone who has found a use for it, please let me know if you have. This powder is comparable to some high end powders I've tried. All in all, I like the ingredients, that it offers a bit of sun protection, texture, coverage, finish on my skin, and the price point.

Good coverage without adding more color or tone. Gives a nice matte finish w/o being heavy. This did not seem to dry out my skin so that’s an added bonus.
