Q: Unable to secure the table top to the legs. Is it supposed to lay flat without securing it to the legs?

Once put together, it is looking good. Directions suggest a two man operation - I did it without help and it was awkward and clumsy but I finally got it together. I did not put in the "sliding" bottom shelf because it was somewhat flimsy and the table looks fine without it. One major problem was that the holes on the underside of the top and on the legs and frame did not match up with any part of what it was supposed to screw in or mount to ? I thought of getting a friend to drill holes etc., etc but then just decided to use heavy duty wood glue (Gorilla Glue) to simply place the table top on the flat table legs and it worked perfectly. It is as sturdy as I can hope for.

It really is a beautiful, simple table, but it was not easy to put together when it came to the top. Like another person said, once you get to that point you need to take some of the work you already did apart to do a good job. Also, the holes don’t line up when it comes to drilling the top on but my husband is a handy man and it wasn’t very difficult. I love the clean, beautifully simple look.
Tiny bit of DIY

Overall this is a very nice table. The top is not predrilled and there are no markers on correct placement, but, with a tape measure there is absolutely no issue on getting it centered. The “newspaper rack”, however, is indeed very flimsy. I ended up cutting two pieces of 3/4” plywood 11 3/8” long and joining them to the bottom rails as struts with pocket holes. It’s plenty sturdy now and doubles nicely as movie and video game storage. The entire thing is made of real wood except for the bottom tray which seems to be Masonite. Overall, with a tiny bit of know how, this table is superb.

Previous review is correct - the top board does not have any way to connect to the base. I did not want to guess where they wanted me to place it. Do not but.
Holes drilled in wrong places

This table would have been great if holes in the table top and the pieces it's supposed to connect to were drilled in the right places. Based on the diagram instructions, holes were drilled in the wrong places and some holes were missing altogether. We ended up having to figure out another way to connect the table top because we weren't going to disassemble over 1 hour of work (connecting the table top is the last step). The quality of the wood itself is decent.
