Not being able to access it through the protective cover would be a very bad thing. A design flaw which may discourage people from buying the camera. This is a very nice camera with a great deal of options and controls available. And a complete manual explaining these can be found easily after downloading the software via the link provided in the last past of the "quick start" guide, which is included in the packaging.
