A: I’ve been collecting Botanic Garden since 1996, so I’m rather familiar with Portmeirion. You need to check the backstamp to be completely sure of where the piece was made as there are many items now made in China.

We’ve enjoyed botanic garden for over 15 years. Portmerion is always quality and these plates last forever. Very durable quality for daily use.

The Botanic Garden sets (made in England) that I purchased recently are not at all like the Botanic Garden set that my family and I have been using for about 27 years. The new dish sets are a different weight, the color on them is not as bright or intense as our 27yo set, and they are clearly printed rather than hand painted. The band around the perimeter of the dinner plates had defects on all plates. There were rough spots on the bottom of every piece that we unpacked. My husband pulled one of the 27 year old plates out of the cabinet and set it next to one of the new plates. The difference was dramatic; neither of us cared for the new set at all. It’s a shame that Portmeirion has skimped on quality. I will return both sets and the completer set that I purchased (to refresh our very well used big family set) and perhaps go with Juliska or similar. Portmeirion will not pay return shipping.

Beautiful. The craftsmanship is outstanding. The online pictures are beautiful, but seeing them in real life, gorgeous.
