Book Synopsis

In this sweet, low-spice rom-com, an eternally sunshiny woman attempts to pull a hardened grump out of the shadows and find love again within a fun musical theater backdrop.

The world could do with a little more kindness and positivity and random acts of singing, don't you think?

Dear Reader,

My name is Penelope, and while I may not be a real-life princess, I've been told I possess a certain fairy-tale heroine quality. I wield optimism as my weapon of choice, don amazing shoes and vintage hats whenever possible, and speak in musical references. All of which perfectly qualifies me to succeed in my new role as a marketing intern at the historic Darling House theater on the island of Skymar.

Only . . . it seems this internship position is going to be a LOT bigger than I thought. The Gray family, who owns the theater, has been stuck in a rut of darkness ever since the loss of their matriarchs. Now all that's left is a dying theater, a reclusive grandfather, three siblings, and an adorable seven-year-old girl who desperately needs some pixie-dust magic.

So that's what this story is about. My plans to save the theater! (Plans that, somehow, keep being stolen by a local competitor.) And an anonymous online theater troupe. And two single brothers who may be vying for this American girl's heart . . . until they're not (or maybe they just want me for my ideas too). And a dream job offer that will require me to make a truly heart-wrenching decision. I may not excel at finishing stories, but I promise to see this one through to its happily ever after.

Positively,

Penelope

Positively, Penelope is the escape you've been looking for--in a world of cynics, Penelope can't help but be a ray of positivity. Witty, hilarious, and heartwarming, this sweet, kisses-only epistolary novel is told mostly through emails and texts and is set in the same world as Authentically, Izzy, but can be read as a stand-alone. Don't wait to lose yourself in the world of Positively, Penelope, perfect for readers of Sarah Adams and Emma St. Clair.

"What do you get when you combine a lovable heroine with characters who have mastered the art of witty banter? A charming read." --Sheila Roberts, USA TODAY bestselling author

'Like the character Penelope herself, this entire book radiates sunshine and magic. The banter between Penelope and her siblings kept me smiling. The theatrical references kept me humming and tapping my toes. And the overall joy that Pepper Basham exudes with her unique writing style and voice kept me engaged in a story I never wanted to leave. Simply put, this book is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.'--Becca Kinzer, author of DEAR HENRY, LOVE EDITH

'This book is a positive delight from the first line to the last. I adored Penelope in Izzy's book and she screamed for her own book, so I couldn't wait to dive into the pages of this novel. On my goodness, it was a true, laugh-out-loud joy to read this book. The story was filled with twists and hiccups, but there was such delight and fun. And fairy tales. And princesses. And Julie Andrews. Gene Kelly. All the things I adore. In one place. And such fun. And the kissing. Pepper does enjoy writing kissing books. I highly recommend this sweet, fun, romantic romp of a book. It was wonderful!'--Cara Putman, award-winning author of more than 35 novels including FLIGHT RISK

I really love this book much more than I thought I would. I thought surely book 2 couldn’t be as special as Authentically Izzy (AI). I was wrong…simply because, again, Pepper writes from the heart. Penelope is so much more than the character we see in AI! So...what Athentically Izzy is to the love of literature, Positively Penelope is to the art of theater. Penelope is a joy, the brothers are swoons and the additional characters from AI, along with those introduced in Penelope’s story, are so fun to get to know. Themes woven within this storyline pointed to gaining back a sense of family and tradition after great loss and betrayal along with bringing out the best in those we love. I so enjoyed how Basham worked her magic with this artsy couple! I really want Penelope to have her Cinderella story with a Sound of Music twist! ❤️ Here are a few quotes I love that I thought really spoke to these characters without giving plots away… “I can safely say I’ve never heard the word swoon used so frequently in one sentence in my life.” “He could only offer her his heart, and a broken, fumbling one it was.” “…as everyone knew, baked goods could solve almost every first-world problem. Almost.” Happy Reading! This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

Positively delightful!!! I seriously could get lost in a world of never ending stories between Izzy, Penelope, Luke and Josephine. These characters are so much fun! Their texts and emails to each other are a hoot, in addition to being loving family correspondence. From the bookish Izzy to the musical theatre and positively fashionable Penelope, I can hardly wait for Luke's story. "I've found that leading with positivity is a great way to face any situation in life, even if my older siblings doubt my logic." "Don't get me wrong. I'm not a leader. But I am a...what's a good description? An encourager with an innate herding impulse? LOL." Penelope is a force to be reckoned with her positive attitude, her singing, her fabulous ideas, her hard work, her baking skills, and her ability to see potential in everything and everyone. There is no one quite like her and she earns the love of many in this foreign island of Skymar where is is completing her internship. She loves fairy tales and suddenly finds herself having fairy tale moments with some of the sweetest people. I fell in love with Penelope, the Gray's, especially the-at-first-grumpy Matthias, his sweet, sweet daughter Iris, and Grandpa Gray. Royalty, dancing, romance, mystery, villains, family history, the importance of community, and a ball! Such a delightful story, and I absolutely loved all the Julie Andrews, Audrey Hepburn and Gene Kelly references! I highly recommend Positively Penelope (and you must read or listen to Authentically Izzy first). Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own. I can't wait for my preordered copy to arrive for a special place on my keeper shelf.

"(The right woman) is going to make you want to linger and cause you to smile when you think of her. Like that feeling you get when you walk out on an empty stage after an excellent performance and you still FEEL the magic of it all whispering through the air. And you can't wait to perform again. Or see the performance again. Just to be there. It's like that." Oh, the deliciousness of it all! Penelope the Sunshine and Matt the Grump are my favorite couple of 2023 so far. Told through a series of emails and texts with some interspersed third person narratives, this book will melt your heart, have you grinning from ear to ear, make you laugh out loud, and convince you to believe in fairy tales again. I felt like I was in Fiacla with Penelope and loved the breath of fresh air the beautiful island was. The banter amongst the cousins and siblings was hysterical and crazy but also unbelievably sweet and tender at times. I enjoyed learning about the business and marketing aspect of running a theater. The pop culture references were so much fun and I will never look at Julie Andrews, Audrey Hepburn, or Rambo the same way again. Penelope's fresh, candid, optimistic and enthralling voice was absolutely delightful. Her "spoonful of sugar" attitude was perfectly balanced by Matt's stoic and solemn outlook and I loved how they learned to embrace their differences to create something beautiful from ashes. Though Matt only had a small third person voice in the storyline, his steadfast, loyal, tender, and still healing heart that Penelope saw totally won me over. And Luke - I am almost salivating for his story (which will come next); his snark and wit had me crying with every email and text! If you are looking for an excellent clean romcom, look no further. You'll adore Penelope and Matt in Skymar. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Thomas Nelson and author; I was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
