Book Synopsis
This sparkling edition will include a special case stamping, bonus content, and a teaser to book two in this heart-pounding series! Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, this young adult fantasy follows the forbidden romance between a powerful prince and an ordinary girl as they try to survive their kingdom's grueling laws pitting them against each other. She is the very thing he's spent his whole life hunting. He is the very thing she's spent her whole live pretending to be. Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya--the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites. The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that--ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime--making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity. Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be keenly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can to stay alive and out of trouble...easier said than done. When Paeydn unsuspectingly saves one of Ilya's princes, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials. The brutal competition exists to showcase the Elites' powers--the very thing Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don't kill her, the prince she's fighting feelings for certainly will if he discovers what she is...completely Ordinary.

This book was okay, i had high hopes but there are too many parallels between the characters and the plot and the hunger games. This book feels like its a fanfic version inspired by the hunger games, i got half way through the book and feel as if everything is all too familiar making it very difficult to finish reading. For starters i think payden is a Fc inspired by peta and kai mc inspired by katniss???? The “trials” the sponsors. The gifts they receive and the fact that the Mcs compete with each other to survive the trials?? I mean c’mon. It’s a good book, i just wish it was made to stand on its own. Safe to say im disappointed. I wouldn’t waste your time unless its something you’re into i guess?? I was a fan until I wasn’t.

This series is great. I have read the first 2 book in the series and have the third on pre-order. I have ordered these books for myself and multiple copies for gifts. From my book friends it’s one of the most requested book to give. My issue is how target ships books. Target shipping department has become super lazy no padding added. I receive so many damaged books. This one, damage is relatively small compared to past books. My App said this book was in stock at my local target, I went to exchange and of course the book was out of stock. Now I have to give it for a birthday present with a torn dust jacket. Not happy with target.

Guys, I have mixed feelings about this. Lauren’s writing was wonderful and I truly love the characters, but the plot and world building? Not great. I had such high hopes for this book bc there has been so much hype, but it’s not quite there for me. Let’s talk about what I enjoyed first! Her writing style was lovely and definitely kept me wanting to read more. There was so much tension between the MCs and the trials so I wanted to find out more. The side characters were super cute (Lenny, Adena, and Jax have my heart), but I wish we saw more of them. Is the story original? Not really. Definitely giving The Hunger Games. Our main characters were literally everything! They both deserve 5 stars just for their personalities. I lovedddd the romance between paedyn and Kai. The banter was great and Kai was melting my heart with the things he said to paedyn. However, this was like really slow slow burn. I’m all for slow burn, but I wasn’t really expecting it here. Idk I just really expected more romance between the two of them. I mean the cover of the book literally says “destined for each other” but all we really got was some banter and their lips touching and now they’re enemies again. I also wish we could’ve seen more world building. I’m used to less intense world building in romantasy, but there is just not enough info provided on these trials. Points are brought up at one point with no explanation on how they tie into the trials? How does one even win? And WHY ARE THERE TRIALS IN THE FIRST PLACE?? Why would you want the elites killing each other when you kill ordinaries to protect the elites?? I do not understand at all. It felt like this was trying to be the hunger games so much 😭 I’m also just really unimpressed with the plot. It’s written like a romantasy, but again, theres just a lot of banter with little genuine development. It just started feeling so repetitive between the banter and fight scenes with little else going on.

I really wanted to like it but it was so cringeworthy. Wa not what it is hyped up to be. I liked the beginning but the chemistry was so forced. It seemed to check all of the boxes but not have actual substance.
Gotta be my fav book atm !!🎀

I recently got into reading (probably a few months into it rn) and HAD to buy this book after seeing way too many videos and recommendations about it. When I tell you that this is a FIVE STAR book, I mean it. Usually it's easy for me to like something but this is more than just liking, this is straight up a bonddd. Do not hesitate to get this book cuz it's actually really good!! First of all- KAIIIIII🤭🤭🤭🤭 my absolute pookie bear😫 gotta be one of the best parts of Powerless, Kai and Paedyn 4 lifeee!!! Out of 🌶️I'd give it a .5-1/5 becuase there isn't rlly anything going on ✨fun✨ wise, there are parts where I ABSOLUTELY FOLDED BC OF KAI TAKING CARE OF PAEDYN (the main character) just please...but this book🤧

Such a fun, easily readable story. Love the similarities to a few other YA fantasy books with its own unique twists and turns. Definitely an easy read.

I loved this book! It was a bit gory at points for my taste, but being a bit medieval in context, I understand. I especially enjoyed the playful banter between MMCs and FMC, the exploration of duty vs choice, the portrayal of class issues, and of course the plot twists! It has a very hunger games vibe in this particular book. Cannot wait for the next install in this trilogy, already pre-ordered! Would highly recommend to those who enjoy fantasy with a splash of non-explicit romance.
MY FAVORITE BOOK!
