Review Quotes
This is a wonderful book to supplement preschool and kindergarten activities. The author was able to incorporate several emotions, holiday symbols, as well as positional and directional concepts in the text. This would support the academic and character education aspects of a school curriculum. The holiday pictures and specific color scheme on each page guides your imagination and knowledge of the upcoming holiday that Les visits while on his whirlwind search. When Les finds his beloved St. Patrick's Day and then goes on to find his friend, Calender, it made my heart melt. -Cynthia Bowen, School Psychological Examiner
Follow Les, the leprechaun, as he travels through the " big blue sky" in Maureen Llewellyn's picture book titled, The Day The Holidays Blew Away. She engages readers as the main character, Les, begins his journey to save his special holiday, that is "filled with leprechauns, pots of gold and rainbows full of dreams". This delightful book can easily be incorporated into a classroom reading session by using the story elements in the picture book. You will be asking yourself if Les will ever be happy again. To find out if he will, you will need to read his story. -Pam Edginton, Retired Teacher
