Simply delicious. Although I regularly buy Rao's marinara sauce at my local grocery shop, the convenience of having it delivered is a real treat. I've made my own sauce for years and do not like the taste of store-bought. Rao's is the one exception.

If you need a marinara sauce that can be enjoyed freshly heated right out of the jar and are also planning on using up that whole jar right away, Rao's is a high recommend. This sauce is one of the best tasting fresh from the jar that I've found. I also appreciate that this brand sells a sensitive stomach option that I can offer to my picky eater. Me, I love garlic and so I love a red sauce with lots of umami, and Rao's marinara does bring it to the table. However! I also like leftovers, and I'm sure there are people out there who use jarred sauce as a make ahead shortcut for Italian casseroles. Rao's, while delicious freshly opened, is one of those rare red sauces that does not improve in the fridge. I have a theory about this. Red sauces improve upon standing because the tomatoes' acid/sugar balance improves upon standing, as well as all the fats and herbs in the sauce fusing with the tomato base. I think that the Rao's is packaged at its peak flavor molecule development and so the longer it sits after opening, the more the flavor is actually starting to degrade. Whereas other sauces might be packaged before full peakness and therefore improve in the fridge. You might say Rao's is like Beaujaulais Nouveau: meant to be enjoyed fresh and fast. If you intend to do make ahead there are less expensive options that will work better, though.
