My kids enjoyed the game but it does seem to be too easy to break and I wonder how long it will ultimately hold their interest. We have yet to play the hardest builds but we cruised through the first couple of rounds easily. Fighting mobs really isn’t an obstacle since you can freely move around to any other resource space. Plus when you defeat a mob you get the chance to pull out and keep a black cube which makes the mobs appear much less frequently after you've defeated a few. If it's still too easy on the hardest builds I'd probably add some house rules to add difficulty such qs making movement cost an action or not being able to remove black cubes from the bag.
Not the average board game - but super fun!

First off - do not be intimidated by all the pieces. It’s a lot. The instruction book is 44 pages long, but only 7 of those are English. I recommend watching a video of game play to help you get the hang of it. After a couple learning rounds, this game is a blast. Fun for all ages!!
Great cooperative game that is complex, but a lot of fun

When we first unpacked and set this game up, I was determined to hate it. So many pieces. Six pages of instructions. Maybe Minecraft was best left as a computer game. BUT, once we got the hang of it (just a few rounds), it turned out to be quite enjoyable. It’s a Minecraft tabletop game and the goal is to work cooperatively to explore land, collect blocks and build buildings. You also have to fight mobs and defend against Illagers. If the players work together to build three buildings before the Illagers get to the village, you win! During each turn, you get two “actions” - a chance to explore (add blocks to a pouch), collect (pick blocks from the pouch; but don’t get the black block, that triggers a mob!), fight (roll a die to attack and defeat the mob), or build(take blocks from your inventory to build buildings). After your two actions, you roll another die to see how the Illagers react. They are on a path to the village and the closer they get, the more in danger you are. This game is great. It is does have some complexities. I joked that I felt like a dungeon master keeping my 7- and 5-year-olds on track while playing it. But it is not as complicated as I feared and I believe it will become a new family favorite. We are already brainstorming ways to make it more challenging (build four buildings or add an extra darkness block to have more chances to get a mob, for instance). And because it is a cooperative game, no one storms away from the table because they are losing. Win-win in my book.

This is a cute game once you get the instructions digested. Ours didn’t come with a bag tho? I like that my boys can play as a team and they either all win or all lose. Nice change of pace. My boys are 9, 7, 5, and 4, so I sit in and help guide but they’re getting the hang of it.
Fun, quick, simple game!

As an early reviewer I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion. Hero's and villages was a big hit with my younger kids (9 and 10)! once we learned they game they ran with it all on their own. They even brought it to Thanksgiving dinner and tuaght all their cousins how to play! It is really nice to have a game that they can be independent with and not need help every time they want to play!

This game was a big hit with the 7-9 year olds in my life. It took a few minutes to fully understand all of the rules but once we got going the game progressed quickly. I really like that you can complete most games in about 20-30 minutes - the kiddos stayed engaged the entire time and were excited to play multiple rounds so that they could figure out which animal companion was the most fun to play with. As a two-player game, game play felt fairly easy even with the hardest builds drawn. At 3-4 players, more mobs are forming and it makes the game play slightly more engaging. Will definitley be a go-to for a quick, easy board game to play if we have 20-30 minutes to kill. Game pieces were high quality - my kiddo really liked building with the wooden blocks. I recommend this game for any Minecraft lovers ages 6-10.

I played this game with my teen board game club and it was a huge hit. It's nice to have games that don't take hours to play. We were able to play a few rounds, move on to another game, and then play this one when we had about 15 minutes left in our session. I know nothing about Minecraft and still had fun playing this cooperative game. The rules took some deciphering, but once we figured it out it was easy to play and fun for everyone. I can see this game being a hit with my younger nieces and nephews who love Minecraft. Great game! Would recommend. As an early reviewer, I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.

As an early reviewer I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion. TLDR - Fun cooperative game for the family that can be customized to different skill levels. I was excited about this game becasue it's a cooperative game, so either we all win or all lose. It's nice to work together on a game that isn't geared towards much younger children, so for that I give it 5 stars. My son (7.5) loves this game. He is a Minecraft fan and begs to play it most days. We've only played with two players, but I think it would be better with 3-4 players. I do like that you can 'customize' the game a bit for different difficulty levels. For me the game was lacking a bit in the strategy department at the lower levels, but it was more fun when we played the harder levels, and did a better job at holding my interest. I would probably give it closer to 4 stars for just the game play.

As an early reviewer, I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion. This game was really fun, and perhaps seemed most like the actual minecraft video game than other board games we have tried. The game can be modified for beginners (younger kids) or older players. The game does go by quickly, and can get several rounds in 30 minutes, so great for younger attention spans. I would like there to be an actual board that you set the game up on, but overall, we loved this game and had fun together as a family!
A brilliant game!

As an early reviewer I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion. My girls absolutely love Minecraft, so this game was always going to be a big hit with them. The quality of the game is very good and the instructions easy to follow. It was also nice for them to play together as one team, instead of competing to be the winner as they do with most games. All in, it's a brilliant game (I like playing it too) and I would recommend it as a great present for any Minecraft fans.
Fun, kid-level co-op for Minecraft fans

Pretty fun kid-level co-op game that does well with the Minecraft theme. My 7 year old Minecraft fan seems to quite enjoy it, and the player actions (explore, mine, fight mobs, or build) fit the theme quite well. Note though this *is* a kids' game, so if your family is into co-op games that are nail-biters where wins are rare and hard-earned, this may not be for you. Although the difficulty levels can be adjusted, it's not that tough to beat. (Note: I received a copy of this game from the publisher in exchange for an honest opinion).

As an early reviewer I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion. For Minecraft fans like my kids this game is fantastic! I was impressed with the quality of the game pieces as we were setting up. My kids liked working together to defeat the Illagers. It was fun exploring the world, gathering blocks, accidentally spawning and then defeating mobs. My kids especially enjoyed having a pet sidekick to help them and each pet has a unique ability. Overall a great game for Minecraft fans!

I recieved a copy of this game in exchange for my honest review Pros: This is a fun cooperative game that can easily be played with younger kids. The game play itself is simple and goes quickly. there are multiple difficulty levels so the game can adjust for different ages. Cons: the instructions are not easy to understand. For instance, they tell you to make 3 stacks of exploration tiles and place them face down. the tiles are 2 sided and it doesn't tell you which side is the top (the resource that go to the bag side goes up. An illustration would have been nice. the instructions would be better with a lot more illustrations. There is an Illager track and a standy for that track, but the base for the standy is too big for the track. All in all this is a good game. you can easily play it with kids or adults and it is fun for both. there is cute art and each tile is designed with pretty minecraft scenery.

So as an early reviewer, I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion. Whether you're a Minecraft fan or just a boardgame lover you will have fun with this game. You complete tasks in order to save the village from the threat of the Illagers. This game is fun, easy to learn, and fast paced. There is a nice variety of tasks to do from building, to fighting monsters, and gathering resources. Also the game, whilst having a more kiddish feel, has enough challenge to it that it's not too easy or too simple there are definitely some fun strategy elements and each game can come down to the wire. I'd also like to mention that the game pieces themselves are really good quality. All and all a very exciting game that you should check out.

Heroes of the Village is a Minecraft themed board game with great elements of the very popular video game format. The graphic are vivid and bright, reflecting the familiar elements you'd see in any Minecraft scenario. Collecting blocks is a major theme in how this game works, with sturdy pieces and durable elements to use in play. This game would work best for kids upper elementary school age to adults. Lots of fun and a great game by Ravensburger, sure to please any Minecraft players in your life. The play time of this game seems to last an hour or so and it is high quality from its design and the construction of the player pieces and other elements. As an early reviewer, I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.
