@bookquoth “Understand, for instance, that having a sad though, even having a continual succession of sad thoughts, is not the same as being a sad person. You can walk through a storm and feel the wind but you know you are not the wind. That is how we must be with our minds. We must allow ourselves to feel their gales and downpours, but all the time knowing this is just necessary weather.” 🌤 . . As always, love mattzhaig. This is a sort of self-help/memoir of his journey with depression and anxiety. Some parts were a little harder to read (for an empath like me, at least!) but he is very real and never neglects to insert hope and humor throughout. 🌤 . . It’s split up into five sections: Falling, Landing, Rising, Living, & Being. One of my favorite lil’ chapters was the one on books. About not just wanting (to read) them, but needing them. Needing the escape. How escaping through books can help you find yourself. How reading can be a meditation in itself. Amen, right?! I also loved how he talked about traveling and putting yourself in new surroundings—you focus much more often on the world outside your head. He also says, “Beauty cleans the mind,” and stressed the importance of being mindful and present and looking for beauty in the moment—even if it’s the smallest thing. 🌤 . . I think if you’re looking for comfort, still go with The Comfort Book, his latest release. But if you’re looking to not feel alone in any sort of depression or anxiety, then this might be really helpful. Matt Haig’s words are a comfort, regardless. 🌤 . . Well, that’s my 4th Matt Haig book down! Still more to go on the backlist. What’s your favorite book of his? Is it fiction or non-fiction? 🌤
